Star Trek- The WTF Prequel

First off, I normally dont blog about movies, thats what the IMDB message boards are for. But its 8am, Friday morning and the office is empty, hence, plenty of time on my hands. We all know by now that Star Trek is being remade.....AGAIN.....Without the original Captain Kirk or Jean Luc. Which to me, equates to a bullshit movie. Now I know J.J. Abrams is directing, which seems to be the only bright spot of this movie. I am an avid Lost fan so I know Abrams could add some suspence to this movie. Prequals usually dont work out, unless your trying to make a buck (Star Wars 1-3)But look at this cast. They totally missed the spot in just about every role:

Spock- Zachary Quinto. Ok, he is in Heros and KINDA looks like Spock, but look at the other alternatives, Shane nailed this one- Tobias Menzies. He was Brutus in the HBO series Rome. Not only does he look like Spock, but he is an amazing actor to boot. I could also see John Krasinski from the Office, he looks more like Spock than Quinto, but his downfall is that he is a comedian actor. But who can argue with THE Mr. Spock, Leonard Nimoy

Captain Kirk- Mike Vogel (rumored)- I look at this guy and I dont see it. He looks like the younger pothead brother of Tom Brady. I thought Matt Damon could nail this role, but Shane quickly put me in my place about his age. If he were 10 years younger, the role would be his. This is the Lead role and they are fucking this one up. Abrams should go back to his roots with Lost and cast Ian Somerhalder, the guy who played Boone.

Scotty- Paul McGillion (Should be)- He is perfect, all be it a tad older. He has a Sci-Fi background with Stargate- Atlantis. That, and he is pure bred Scottish. He has the accent nailed. But knowing Hollywood, they will try to bs us with Collin Farrell (Irish I know) or Craig Fergesun. We shall see.

Bones McCoy- Casey Affleck (should be)- Now we all know I dont like any actor with the last name "Affleck", but Casey has some talent, and thats more than big brother Ben. He kinda looks like him and can be an asshole on screen. Note Oceans Eleven (Say what you want, fun flick). Coming off the success of Jesse James, he could add a tiny bit of star power as well. I also read something about Karl Urban fitting this role. Hell, he would be perfect and he is only 35. I am a HUGE Rings fan so he would really be my favorite choice. Remember, Bones was by far the oldest member of the crew.

Chekov- Anton Yelchin- Well, they kinda cast this one well. He is Soviet (born in USSR) so he can pull off the accent. He doesnt look a think like Checkov. In fact, he looks like a Hobbit. We shall see

Nyota Uhura- Zoe Saldana- This could work out. No objections.

Nero- Eric Bana (Villan)- Uhm.........Ok, I like Bana but he doesnt strike fear into me, or anyone. Hell, his Hulk was comical (not all his fault tho). Hell, Christopher Lloyd is scarrier than this guy. But then again, I like Bana's movies alot (exept Hulk). They NEED to cast someone comparable to Khan. Hell, im sure Tyler Mane is available. Cant act much, but name one Vulcan who could?

Yeh, its 8:45 now and still bored out of my mind.

*UPDATE*
The movie is now watchable. The mind behind Shawn of the Dead and Hot Fuzz has signed on to play Scottie. AND, John Cho, Harold from Harold and Kumar is Sulu. Good save Mr. Abrams. Thanks Shane for the weblink

I will also post about this later since Sulu and Scotty have now been cast as Harold and Shaun of the Dead.

Karl Urban is WAY too huge to play Bones
