This Project Took Me Most Of The Day

So I've been thinking about the Monorail and I believe the following map is my idea for where this train should run. Now the big problem with this is that the airline companies will fight it tooth and nail, as will big oil, since with Dews' plan we'd use nuclear power, sun power, and whatever kind of power we decide to use to make this clean. I think there is plenty of room and in theory you could likely get from one side of this country to the other in a day.

An ICE train in Germany can get up to 186 miles an hour so a trip to New York City from DC would take an hour and a half with stops at the most. If you click on the picture you get a much better view of my monorail system and proposed routes. Each route was estimated with distance, time traveled and stop time at each hub. This would truly be the biggest public works project ever taken on by this country.

CityCat mentioned that it would never work, that people have chosen flights and cars over trains, and this is true. This however is not trains, this isn't Amtrak, this is an ICE train. Amtrak and Greyhound stop every lil place, not this one. Big cities only, nice accommodations, and quick travel. How many people here would take this train to spring break or a trip to new york city instead of driving or flying? I know I would.

Each line would have to main points, basically an ending and closing. Those points would have trains leaving at 6am, 12pm, and 6pm. Some of the more north western spots may not need that many times so they'd be reduced to once a day until demand needed more. The drivers could drive one way and wait until the night train to drive home. So the Boston Driver goes to Charlotte at 6am. He drives the Charlotte 6pm train back to Boston. Then again, it may be easier to drive consecutively as well. They would basically have to be on rotation and could easily be accomplished.

The following is the various routes I have come up with in this system.
Boston-NYC-Phily-DC-Charlotte
Charlotte-Atlanta-Orlando-Miami
DC-Charleston, WV-Cincinnati-Indianapolis-Springfield, IL
Montgomery, AL-Birmingham-Jackson-Shreveport-Dallas
Tallahassee-Mobile-Jackson-Little Rock-Memphis
Charlotte-Knoxville-Nashville-St Louis
St Louis-Kansas City-Oklahoma City-Dallas
Dallas-Austin-Houston-New Orleans-Baton Rouge
DC-Richmond-Charleston, SC-Atlanta-Birmingham
Columbus-Cincinnati-Louisville-Nashville-Birmingham-New Orleans
Boston-Buffalo-Pittsburgh-Cleveland-Columbus
Philadelphia-Pittsburgh-Cleveland-Detroit-Chicago-Milwaukee
Milwaukee-Minneapolis-Fargo-Des Moines
Nashville-Memphis-Shreveport-Houston
Santa Fe-Phoenix-Las Vegas
Fargo-Cheyenne
Charleston, SC-Savannah-Jacksonville-Orlando-Tampa-Tallahassee
Los Angeles-Santa Barbara-Fresno-Oakland-Sacramento-Reno
Sacramento-Portland-Seattle
Seattle-Boise-Reno
Reno-Salt Lake City-Cheyenne
Santa Fe-Colorado Springs-Denver-Cheyenne-Lincoln
Little Rock-Wichita-Denver
Chicago-Springfield-Des Moines-Lincoln-Kansas City
Denver-Salt Lake City-Las Vegas
Dallas-Santa Fe-El Paso
Houston-Austin-San Antonio-El Paso
El Paso-Phoenix-Las Vegas
Las Vegas-Los Angeles-San Diego-Phoenix-Tucson

The beautiful thing is that you can get off of one train and jump onto another going a different direction. Or when trains meet at connecting places you could easily go from Boston to Miami from 6am to 6pm or even Boston to New Orleans in the same amount of time. Yes, some areas flights will be quicker, but with security checkpoints and small planes, a nice comfy chair on a quick train is a much preferable way to travel.

Damn Shane, that is indeed impressive.

Totally agree with how you've laid it all out (though would've loved to had a Boston > Albany > Montreal route for where I'm at right now :) ).

The issues that present themselves with Big Oil, Air, etc, are indeed large and difficult... But I also have a policy for that, that will probably immediately revoke my status as a member of the Libertarian party :)...

Think Hugo Chavez meets angry investor... :)

I'll explain later...

I like this layout alot. Not necessarily for the transfer trains but the direct lines.

This layout would never work because of lobbyists and special interest groups, however, would scare the airline industry straight. No more government bailouts and better flight/time management.

Its funny that an off the wall idea would scare corporations straight.

This is very doable though using alternative fuel sources. Its a shame this country is led by the few rich than the many who arent.

If you google this blog, this is the first result. What does that mean?
