Dews Pre-Taco day Issue

Leading off is an issue that many of the contributors here at LSWTF know gets my blood boiling every few years when it is renewed via congress...

The epitome of wasteful spending without any clear guidelines on some sort of return on the billions of tax dollars we spend on it every year...

No, I'm not talking about the Iraq war, I am talking instead about the travesty that is, F'n AMTRAK!

A nearly $15 billion Amtrak bill passed the House on Wednesday as lawmakers rallied around an alternative for travelers saddled with soaring gas prices.
The only redeeming quality in this bill was:

Besides the $14.9 billion provided for Amtrak and intercity rail, an amendment to the bill would authorize $1.5 billion for Washington's Metro transit system over the next 10 years.

But honestly, 1.5 billion for Washington's Metro is still not going to connect us to Bawlmore, so as far as I'm concerned this is still a waste as well. Besides, 1.5 billion over 10 years? That won't even pay for the Tyson's Corner station, much less the "Purple" line...

Tired of wasting billions of dollars on systems that just DON'T work! We should at the very least nationalize this system and offer it as a benefit rather then throwing money at it. We've identified that it is a necessity to our country to keep it running, but we aren't getting good value on our investment (as evidenced by it being twice as expensive to take a train up the eastern coast then flying to the same location).
That is all...
