Touchdown Jesus!!!

Has been found in New Orleans!!! I kid you not.

On a bizzare ironic note, we learned that the Superdome was built on an ancient burial ground. This could explain why they never win!! Or at least thats what some Nawlin's natives tell us!

Danger! Danger!

Yet again the city of New Orleans is in the news for flooding, though thankfully not nearly as big a story as that "other" thing that happened down there.

Apparently the rainfall has gotten so bad that the cities pumps to deal with the water have not been able to keep up, thus portions of the city were so badly flooded the city's Mayor Nagin (yes, he IS still mayor) had told motorists to not even bother accessing portions of the city's roads.

Making problems worse in New Orleans were catch basins clogged with debris from gutted or renovated homes. Jackson urged residents to clean out the basins to help in draining standing water from streets.

Meanwhile, officials closed a gate on the Harvey Canal in suburban Jefferson Parish where the waters threatened to top the walls. It was one of several in the area placed under new safety guidelines after Katrina's waters breached two New Orleans canals, causing catastrophic flooding.

I can't help but feel like this is yet another in a long list of signs to people to either build enormous walls around the city to protect from the ever encroaching waters, or basically just get the hell out of the area...

Don't get me wrong, New Orleans is truly an amazing city and among my favorite places to be, but the place is gonna disappear ala Atlantis very soon... May just be time to make peace with that and move on.

PS: No, I didn't fall off the face of the earth, though have been planning a possible triumphant return to my "home" in DC, so that has taken up a chunk of my time...

Kill a Roo save the Ozone!

Ahh I crack myself up...

I can finally find something that I am in total 100% agreement with on Greenpeace! As cool as those dingys looked that they played chicken with tankers with and all, this one takes the cake.

They are advising the Government of Australia (Land of Crocodile Dundee, Steve Irwin and Mel Gibson), to lift restrictions on the hunting of Kangaroos for meat!
It also coincides with recent calls from climate change experts for people in rich countries to reduce red meat and switch to chicken and fish because land-clearing and burping and farting cattle and sheep were damaging the environment.

They said nearly a quarter of the planet's greenhouse gases came from agriculture, which releases the potent heat-trapping gas methane.
This makes sense on so many levels to me though... They have a great argument about how damaging agriculture is on massive scales throughout the world, so why not lower the need to mass-produce red-meat when you have a free-ranging animal that is being killed anyway constantly by farmers or poachers and being left to rot because of the restriction on harvesting?

I'm totally in favor of being able to try new meat, hopefully for cheap :). Having fallen in love with Gator sausage/steak/whatever while down in New Orleans the 300 times I seemed to have gone this year, I can only imagine that free-ranging, or more "wild" animals will have great meat for the masses... Plus, if we can do away with a part of something that even Greenpeace thinks is a problem while retaining the ability to eat meat, why not? :)

PS: New Orleans is really a place everyone should go see as soon as possible... There really is no telling when that town will be wiped off the face of the earth, so you better hurry!
