Dews Tuesday Rundown...

Seemingly a sleepy week here at LSWTF.com, as the dominant stories have been away from our usual buffet of sports (and then arguing about how bad the San Francisco Giants are as opposed to the Baltimore Orioles), and more geared towards current events, Law, Politics, etc.

I know our good friend Jack Gonzo may still be recovering from a long trip to the west coast over the weekend though, so that may still require a bit more healing :).

Anyway, leading off the stories of the day are some news out of Ye Olde England and former Beatles Great, Sir Paul McCartney (or rather his Ex-wife gold-digger Heather Mills).

Its not like stories like these don't happen all the time, but this Mills character had been selling this split as brought on by actions of Sir Paul... This evidence of course did not exactly impress the judge:

"I have to say I cannot accept the wife’s case that she was wealthy and independent by the time she met the husband in the middle of 1999. Her problem stems from the lack of any documentary evidence to support her case as to the level of her earnings."
The Judge added: "Her tax returns for 1999 and 2000 do not support the wife’s case of very significant earnings as set out in her affidavit.
Which all kind of makes sense when you consider she originally had requested £125 Million as a settlement...

In the immortal words of Dr. Dre, you just can't make a Hoe a housewife... And lord, those truly are still words to live by!!!

This story will of course get much worse before it gets any better I'm sure...

Finally in a more inspirational story, Darth Vader himself (Dick Cheney) is in Iraq visiting the troops, shaking hands, kissing babies, the whole nine yards.

In an ironically twisted way, the most telling part of the trip so far (besides the female suicide bomber that killed at least 43 at last count), was his inspiring speech to the troops hailing how badly the people of Iraq and Afghanistan needed freedom... There is just something about a leader giving that kind of speech to an army that is presently in a sovereign country just is kind of funny to me.

Merchant of Peace...

...or should it be merchant of piece? Apparently Shrubya is dispatching Darth Cheney to push for Middle East peace.

No, that isn't a typo, Shrubya actually believes that Dick Cheney can help the peace process along. Of course, I realize where he got this idea from, do you?

Over the weekend Shrubya must have watched Star Wars Episode III, Revenge of the Sith. He sends Darth Cheney to the "rebels" to broker peace...with a lightsaber, or in this instance a hunting rifle. After all you know, when one thinks about peace in the middle east one thinks of Vice President Dick Cheney.

Dews Slow Monday...

In total agreement with Jack on how slowly this day is going... Its feeling like I"ve been working for many many hours now, when in reality is has not been long at all.

Didn't help to have a string of essentially 4 days of debauchery to lead up to today though either...

No matter, on to the news:

Leading off, it never ceases to amaze me how often my home state (People's Republic of Vermont) seems to be in the headlines. Thankfully for more interesting things then the decriminalization of Marijuana this time:

Brattleboro residents will vote at town meeting on whether President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should be indicted and arrested for war crimes, perjury or obstruction of justice if they ever step foot in Vermont.

The Brattleboro Select Board voted 3-2 Friday to put the controversial item on the Town Meeting Day warning.

I love the fact that Vermont still celebrates its Republic past by continuing with the tradition of "Town Meeting Day", even though the last few years have essentially been indictments of the present administration rather then the important local issues (but at least everyone gets a day off for it :) ).

No word yet as to whether President Bush, or Vice President Cheney would actually respond to such an indictment...

Home prices continue their enormous slump, only this time its on historic levels. In what has been viewed as the most significant decline in housing costs since the Great Depression, home values have declined for the first time since "reliable records began in 1968!"

Over all, sales of previously owned single-family homes fell 13 percent in
2007, the biggest drop in a quarter-century. Last month alone, home sales dipped
2.2 percent from November, to a 4.89 million annual rate. (The group’s survey
excludes newly constructed homes.)

I think its safe to say that something momentously bad is about to happen in this already very weak economic cycle...

Finally, this Friday begins the infamous Carnival celebration in Brazil. Thankfully I will be in Vegas to celebrate another momentous event, otherwise this sounds like one helluva party... You know its going to get a little wild when your own government is advising you to have a good time, but:

Latin America's largest country stops work and indulges in a riot of
drinking, dancing and parades accompanied by often licentious behavior.

Lula appealed in his weekly radio address for people to be careful during the
partying.

"No one needs to drink or do anything more than normal to enjoy
themselves," he said.

Truly, something that LSWTF needs to be represented at next year... Being the only one that isn't stuck in "America's Siberia" or otherwise "unable" to attend such an event, I volunteer to represent us all next year... That is all :)

Insider Info

Not much of a juicy tidbit, but on CSPAN around 3pm you'll be seeing Presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich speaking about impeaching Darth Vadar... I mean, Dick Cheney.

Just thought I'd pass this along.

Should be taking place inside the Rayburn House building, if you're in the neighborhood...

Probably sometime next week when I'm settled in I'll be able to write more "Dews Policy" ideas, or a "Dews Roundup" or two, but until then I"ll have to settle for this abstract occasional posts.

I do humbly apologize to any and all fans I may or may not have :)

UPDATE: As of 3:50pm Eastern Time, by a vote of 242-171 the motion is succeeding in the House...

Dews Thursday issues

Wow..

Well where to begin.

World Series began last night and though I pulled a Tony Kornheiser by falling asleep before 10:10 or so, I was pretty sure the rest of the game was going to be more of the same Sox killing Rox, and sure enough, it was.

In a surprising news event, we learn that 48% of Americans have trouble sleeping. Quite honestly I'm glad the number is so high, because that makes me feel FAR far better about my own insomnia, but they didn't stop at just sleeping... Apparently we're drinking far too much as well, which I can kinda see too (Kickball Offseason right?).

I'm guessing that Mr. Cheney also suffers from some insomnia himself, but really shouldn't be catching up on sleep during a "Wild Fires" briefing...

Anyway, short, quick post for me today... Got stuff to do, things to plan/pack, crappy lopsided baseball to watch and perhaps some sleep to lose and alcohol to drink (I'm a good American afterall)!.

Enjoy all.

Wow...just wow...

I don't know if the following from this article is merely a typo or not, but if it's not, wow, just wow.
Cheney's office argued that the offices of the president and vice president were exempt from the order because they are not executive branch "agencies."

So now you're telling me that the Office of the President is not a part of the Executive Branch? Excuse me, Dick, I know you all think he is one but there is no office of the royal family.
