5 Years in the making...

In a pretty much expected move (though about 5 years late by my guess), Turkey appears to be at the brink of an invasion of Iraq.

I'll let that sink in a little bit.

Yes Turkey, our psuedo-allies in the region and quite possibly the most interesting democracy in the world (Google: "Tears of Ankara") has been sitting by for a long time waiting for some sort of resolution in their own issues with one of the "big 3" ethnic groups in Iraq. Now it appears imminent that they will invade after receiving approval from Turkish Parliament today.
Parliament on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved a possible cross- border offensive against Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq, although the government appears willing to give diplomatic pressure on the U.S.- backed Iraqi administration more time to work.

Lawmakers voted 507-19 in favor of empowering the government to order the military to cross into Iraq over a one-year period. Turkish leaders have stressed that an offensive against the rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, would not immediately follow the expected authorization.

I'm guessing this could complicate matters just a bit more for the region, but honestly, how could it get any worse?

Maybe we should just let Turkey annex all of Iraq?

Well, I think this process was recently fastracked to give the US the "F You".

But ya know, those rebels are attacking their country, they should be able to eliminate that threat.

eh, the Kurds are never going away though. They've been there forever, and actually are a part of turkey as well.

The British screwed us all by designing these countries to be fragmented ethnic populations, rather then actual united individual ones...

Thanks a lot jackasses...

Hasn't Turkey been threatening this for about a year and a half, maybe more?

I would gladly take a defeat at the hands of the Turkish Army. Have the jets prepped and ready for the moment a Turkish foot hits Iraqi soil.

"You got us! Peace!"

Turkey has been threatening to invade since before we invaded. Thats why this is "kinda" surprising, but not really.

The word Turkey always reminds me of the commercials that always followed Saturday morning cartoons.

Anyone remember this line? "I'm not a chicken, you're a turkey!"

Awesome
