NFL Power Rankings Week 6

Now huge surprises this week in the NFL, the bye Manning was still better then Manning the Younger, the Bungles have returned, and someone managed to get TO to shut up without saying a word.

1. New England Patriots (1)-Should I even list them anymore? Does anyone actually think they will be moving from this spot one iota of an inch? Can Tom Brady give me 75 points again in fantasy? I surely hope so.
2. Indianapolis Colts (2)-You know it has to be just driving Peyton crazy right now. He finally won the big game, he should be getting all these accolades and that damn Wolverine is showing him up, again.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (3)-This team was not hurt by the bye week blues and keep strong at a nice and steady number 3. Plenty of time to get their gameplan prepared for the measly Broncos.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars (5)-They beat the fairly solid Texans this week, which is a rarity for them the last few seasons. They also remembered that they had Maurice Jones-Drew on their football team, which made fantasy owners quite pleased.
5. Dallas Cowboys (4)-Just a one spot drop, they are still without a doubt the best football team in the NFC. It does please me to know that our defense performed better then my sister and brother's team, giving me trash talking rights all year.
6. Green Bay Packers (6)-Note the prettiest of wins, the key of course is the win. The found a way to win, by hook or by crook, and got the better of the Beltway Boys. They need to find that missing running game if they want to have any hope of getting to the Super Bowl though.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10)-Our first big jump of the day goes to Jon Gruden and those pesky pirates. I haven't seen this team play this well since they won a Super Bowl. All this without a running back is quite impressive, though knocking out Vine Young is probably the reason they ended up winning.
8. Carolina Panthers (12)-An even bigger jump, which is quite impressive for a 43 year old man. It will be interesting to see if the veteran leadership that Vinny will give this team will be enough for them to overcome their split personality disorder that they've had all season long.
9. Tennessee Titans (7)-Once they lost Vince Young the offense became a boat without a rudder really quick like. Thankfully that defense is a player or two away from being one of if not the best in the league and kept them in that game. They need Vince Young back though if they have any playoff plans.
10. Washington Redskins (8)-Yes, their defense is quite good, I won't and haven't argued that point all season. Their offense though is something to be desired. Jason Campbell has a bright future, I just don't know if they have the right tools for what they want to run. They also now have no offensive line, which is just going to exasperate things.
11. New York Giants (13)-Where did this come from? Three weeks ago I was pondering if the Jets and Giants were going to be fighting for the highest twenty spot all season long and now they've gone on this four game tear. I do know this team is playing at a very high level and will need that bye week to recoup.
12. San Diego Chargers (15)-Oh no, Superman found his cape. The wheels of the train are starting to pick up speed and turn into a locomotive from hell itself, or whatever other metaphor you want to say to describe this resurgent Chargers team.
13. Cleveland Browns (16)-I wonder when people will start believing. We're 3-3, we could easily be 4-2 and without turnovers maybe even 5-1 knocking off the top team. This team is FOR REAL. Everyone wants to talk about the Ravens, we beat the Ravens, when they had McNair. We're the new freight train in the AFC North, get the fuck out of our way.
14. Houston Texans (9)-Quite a drop, but the injuries are starting to mount for this very young team. This team I think is a year away from being a legit championship contender if they have another great draft year like the last two.
15. Arizona Cardinals (11)-This may be the last time you see the Cards this high this season. You see, someone breathed on Kurt Warner on Sunday so TIM RATTAY was playing quarterback. This almost has me thinking of dumping Bouldin since there won't be a QB to throw him the ball.
16. Seattle Seahawks (14)-What did I tell you, injuries and age are creeping up on the Seahawks like some serial killer. They were more or less man handled by the Saints. I know the Saints had two weeks to prepare and Reggie Bush found his Robin Cape, but you cannot be beat like that against a winless team.
17. Kansas City Chiefs (28)-Ok, I'm starting to become a believer. Then again, it helps that Larry Johnson remembered how to run the damn football. Tom Brady can't carry my team alone Larry. The Raiders game is a big one this week for those two teams as to which direction their seasons will go.
18. Baltimore Ravens (21)-Everyone keeps remarking about their defense, how they've held their last two opponents under seven points. No offense to my friends, but one team was a Trent Dilfer led Niners team and the other was a Rams team that has more starters hurt then on the field, so how is this supposed to impress me? Oh, and Kyle Boller is starting again, I'm salivating at the thought of playing him again.
19. Detroit Lions (18)-Not too much difference this week for the Lions since they were on bye, but unlike others I'm not going to overate them simply because of their record, much like Baltimore they have the luxury of schedule. A decent team who should finish the year 500, maybe even threaten a wild card spot, but only because they're in the NFC.
20. Minnesota Vikings (25)-I don't think any team was more of a surprise this week then the Vikings. Adrian Peterson treated the cherished Bears defense like they were Baylor or Rice. It is the horror we Longhorns fans knew for a few years, thank god he's gone. IF he can stay healthy the Vikes might shock a few people this season.
21. Oakland Raiders (17)-So many running backs, with no qb ready to lead the offense into that next level. Daunte is talented, but I don't see leadership there. That's the difference between a skilled player and a championship player. Time will tell which kind of player JaMarcus Russell is.
22. Buffalo Bills (24)-They get the bye week bump this week, which is a scary thought. Trent Edwards was just giving another week to get to know this offense better, could the Bills make some noise and some upsets in the AFC? I for one think they very might will, this Edwards kid was impressive against a very good D.
23. San Francisco 49ers (22)-Injuries have not been kind to the NFC West and the Niners know this almost as well as the Rams do. Two of their prized young players are out and lord knows when they'll be 100% enough to play again. That defense though has the makings of a real stopper, that alone may keep them in a few games.
24. Chicago Bears (20)-A defense with that kind of reputation can not allow to be ran all over by some Sooner in purple. Especially when your offense is the laughing stock west of St Louis, wait no, it's just the laughing stock period. Trade Grossman to Miami for Lemon and let Orton take another crack at it.
25. Philadelphia Eagles (19)-This may be a shock to some, but will probably annoy some of my friends, but here is the reason I put the Eagles this low. You've won two games, against the Lions and Jets. You had two weeks to prepare for a very bad team in the Jets and you only win 16-9? That is not a sign of a good football team folks.
26. Denver Broncos (26)-No move this week from the Mile High Jackasses. I know they're hoping to get the rub from the Rockies, but it isn't gonna happen. Shannahan I think is coming to the point of his career that the league has surpassed him, his offensive line isn't what it once was, and the defense has glaring holes.
27. New Orleans Saints (30)-Another week like this last one and they very well may jump up into the top twenty five to make Reggie Bush feel at home. They seem to be figuring out whatever it was that was wrong with the team and Bush looks like he might have rediscovered his running back ability from USC. Luckily they have the Falcons and Niners to practice on the next two weeks before the Jaguars.
28. Cincinnati Bengals (20)-I kept trying to believe that maybe Carson Palmer could put this team on his shoulders alone and carry them to the promise land. Then Rudi Johnson got hurt and that just added more weight to his load. This defense can be down right atrocious at times and it doesn't seem to be getting better any time soon. You may want to start packing your bags now Marvin.
29. New York Jets (27)-I'm sorry New York, no matter how badly you play you won't be as bad as the Dolphins. Then again, you could ruin all our dreams and just drop one in the laps of the Dolphins, that is my worst fear. That the Dolphins will somehow be saved from a winless season at the hands of the Jets.
30. Atlanta Falcons (28)-Way to show up for a Monday night game guys. Your defense manages to get three turn overs from the Giants but you did jack with it, way to go. I haven't seen a team so loss since the Redskins tried figuring out why Gus Ferrote tried to commit suicide on the barricade wall. Bobby Petrino, I know you dream of Brian Brohm, but you may not last that long sparky.
31. Miami Dolphins (32)-Congratulations Miami, you moved about St Louis this week, you should be proud. Cleo Lemon can be a decent enough quarterback for you, he was definitely an upgrade from Trent Green. I will say this, Ronnie Brown is the real deal and would be an MVP candidate for any other team not in the bottom five of this list.
32. St Louis Rams (31)-Congratulations are in order for you St Louis, you managed to hold the Baltimore Ravens to under 30 points this week. Then again Kyle Boller was playing quarterback some of the game so they helped themselves to that hindrance. When I think of you I hear Randy Quaid's character from Major League 2 in my head. You're old mother hubbard and only Vaughn is in the cubbard, except for the Rams it is Travis Minor.

How did the Niners lose ground on a bye week? Alex Smith and Vernon Davis will be listed as questionable for Sundays game and could play. Hopin for alittle love here.

Cause they did nothing to help their spots while other teams did. Don't hope for love, hope for a healthy team. Besides, you're playing the hot Giants, hope Eli throws balls to your secondary

I understand, but the Bills moved up 2 spots on thier bye week and that was following a loss as well. Kinda seems they should be 2 spots apart still. But thats just my opinion.

We do play Eli and the Giants, but that outcome would reflect on next weeks power rankings right?

One problem with your argument, Buffalo almost beat the best team in the NFC. You didn't come close to the number three team in the AFC

SayHey Kid said...

But that was reflected in your power rankings for week 5. neither team played week 6.

The Bills moved up two spots, Bears, Niners, Bengals and Eagles all moved down below the Bills, of course they moved up. They did nothing to hurt their standing, the Niners have done nothing to help theirs since players still aren't healthy

Ok, so the power rankings are based not on win/loss, but rather that combined with team health?

If so, that would make more sense as to our drop.

Jack Gonzo, MD said...

Of course everything is combined into determination. If it was just win loss the Ravens would be higher

Ok, but Davis and Smith did not play vs the Ravens and they were still ranked higher than the Bills Week 5. Niners had no significant (hell, if any) injuries vs Baltimore. Week 6 we lost a spot while Buffalo gained having not played.

See where im going with this??
