2008 NFL Mock Draft Rounds 1 & 2

Good day everyone, I'm here with your weekly mock draft with the order coming from my projected records for the rest of the season as seen in yesterday's power rankings. I also did a great deal of research looking into what teams have selected as their first pick the past five years. Surprisingly, Seattle has not had a first round pick in I believe it was 3 out of the last 5 years. Seattle loves trading back and stockpiling later picks. This spurned in me to turn into GM mode and make trades.

I know, this is upset some of you. I looked over what teams have been the most active traders the last few years and took that into account. In the end there was only two trades and I used the all mighty trade value chart for them.

*New England traded their number 5 pick to Dallas for their 24th, 28th, 61st and 157th draft picks.
*New England then traded Seattle their 61st, 70th and 157th picks for Seattle's 26th pick.

I know most of you have found your way here from Walter Football and I'd like to welcome you to take a look around at our other posts which range from a wide variety of subjects. Also, I would love to hear what you the fans think your team needs and where they should go in the upcoming draft.

1. Miami Dolphins-Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
After looking at the Dolphins roster, and their recent drafts, the more urgent need appeared to be defensive tackle and not offensive tackle like I had previously been projecting. Dorsey has looked like a man among boys and should fit in with the Dolphins style of play on defense.
2. New York Jets-Calais Campbell, DE, Miami
Campbell will be one of those combine wunderkinds, and will get plenty of ooohs and aaaahs. The Jets LOVE drafting players from the U, and Campbell will be no exception. I know many project Chris Long, but Campbell is more athletic and the Jets will waste no time making the selection.
3. Atlanta Falcons-Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
If you don't think that Bobby Petrino, if he makes it to next year, doesn't go after HIS quarterback, you're sadly mistaken. He knows the offense so he can step right in and just adjust to the NFL speed.
4. Minnesota Vikings-Jake Long, OT, Michigan
I know the popular pick is for the Vikings to take a quarterback, but I believe Childress will go for a veteran before drafting one. The Vikings are also a team that could deal for Brady Quinn, using this 1st pick as bait as well. Imagine though the Vikings offensive line with Long, Hutchinson and Birk on one side. The only word I can think of is dominating.
5. Dallas Cowboys (via Patriots via Niners)-Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
Don't be fooled by the Cowboys having Marion Barber or Julius Jones, Jerry Jones will have his eyes on McFadden and that's why he will give up four draft picks to get him, and why not? He may be this year's Purple Jesus, and you saw what he can do. Now imagine Purple Jesus on a good team, that's what Jones is imagining.
6. Oakland Raiders-Chris Long, DE, Virgina
For once the football gods work in The Emperor's favor and the son of Howie falls to the silver and black of the Oakland Raiders. Now another team could get above them, namely the Browns with the Vikings deal, and take Long before he gets to six. If he makes it here, his name will already be on a piece of paper when the Raiders clock starts.
7. St Louis Rams-Sam Baker, OT, USC
Orlando Pace isn't getting younger, and his time off the field is more then his time on it. The Rams need a dominate lineman to block for Jackson and to protect Bulger. If they go anywhere other then Baker, I'll have SayHey eat his hat.
8. Baltimore Ravens-Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
I believe that the Ravens will take as much time on this pick as I did. I originally thought Barry Richardson, the tackle from Clemson. Ogden is breaking down and needs a replacement. Then I remembered that they have no quarterback. With that in mind, I think the city of Baltimore would love this kid.
9. Carolina Panthers-James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio St
How The Road Warrior fell to number 9, I don't know. Someone will be tempted, possibly the Bengals, to move up and draft him, but I don't know if that many teams will be willing to move down this year. Putting LOD in Dan Morgan's spot might very well return that Panthers defense to what we expect it to be.
10. Houston Texans-Kenny Phillips, S, Miami
The Texans have been going defense first the last four years and I don't expect that trend to end, especially in the division they play in. Their defense is almost there, all they're missing is that middle secondary playmaker. Kenny Phillips is that player and I don't think they'll waste time taking him.
11. Cincinnati Bengals-Keith Rivers, OLB, USC
With The Road Warrior off the board, the Bengals will go after the next best linebacker available which is Keith Rivers. They've liked what they got from USC before, so this shouldn't take much effort.
12. Chicago Bears-Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
It is very possible that Matt Ryan will be the latest quarterback who is at the draft and keeps waiting and waiting like Aaron Rogers and Brady Quinn before him. The Bears need to find a QB, and this guy is solid. A big plus is that he's actually played in cold weather, which always helps your chances at succeeding in Chicago.
13. Arizona Cardinals-Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College
I'd love someone to research and see if two Boston College players have ever been taking back to back in the NFL draft. Hell, in any draft for that matter. Wisenhunt and Grimm are O-Line guys and they know they have to protect their QB and find the running game somewhere. That starts at the o-line.
14. Denver Broncos-Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio St
Since the sad passing of their corner, Darrent Williams, they've had a huge hole opposite of Champ Bailey. This is a big reason why teams are torching them through the air, John Lynch and Bailey can only do so much. That's why I go with Jenkins, who'll likely be rated number one at his position.
15. Buffalo Bills-DeSean Jackson, WR, Cal
The Bills found a future star in Marshawn Lynch, and I think they will go back to the well so to speak with Jackson. Marv Levy is one of the greatest football minds there ever was in regards to talent, and he also sees how returns are becoming a huge part of the game. With that in mind, Jackson should be a no brainer.
16. Kansas City Chiefs-Barry Richardson, OT, Clemson
The staple of the Chiefs for over a decade was arguably the best offensive line in the NFL. Shields, Roaf and the others have all either moved on or are retired. Their O-Line has been lackluster at best this season and Richardson is a dependable and strong blocker that Herm Edwards would love.
17. Detroit Lions-Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
The Lions are still attempting to upgrade their defense after years of focusing on one position. Their linebacking corps and secondary are decent right now, but Shaun Rogers seems to be their d-line. Jackson can come in and upgrade it almost immediately. They could go corner, but there is enough that one will be available in the second round.
18. Philadelphia Eagles-Xavier Adibi, OLB, Virginia Tech
I personally think Vince Hall is the better of the two linebackers, but Adibi is probably the more athletic which is what the Eagles need on an aging defense. He has the speed to move all over and make plays anywhere on the field, which the Eagles need if they want to beat the Cowboys.
19. Washington Redskins-Dre Moore, DT, Maryland
I don't know what is prompting me to pick Dre Moore every week for the Redskins, but something tells me that they're going to go local this year. Their defensive line is decent, but it doesn't frighten teams like the Giants do. Dre Moore creates a big mean force in the middle, which should help Greg Williams and his scheme.
20. Jacksonville Jaguars-Early Doucet, WR, LSU
The Jaguars have drafted two first round receivers the last five years and are still looking to find a play maker to take pressure off of their running game. They reach into the barrel again and take a chance on Doucet, surprisingly the first real receiver taken so far.
21. New York Giants-Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
The Giants have great defensive ends, but their interior defensive line is only manageable. Going after Ellis gives them a play maker and pass rusher to compliment the power of their defensive ends. The Giants are thinking defense, they know they have to have that to beat the Cowboys.
22. Tennessee Titans-Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
The Titans have enough running backs, and their offensive line fairly solid. What Vince Young needs to succeed is some talented wide receivers. I think they'll go after Sweed due to the fact that Vince and Sweed have played before, quite well, and shouldn't take too much time to get used to one another again and form that rapport.
23. New Orleans Saints-Erin Henderson, OLB, Maryland
Henderson is moved up so highly mainly because teams see what his brother (EJ Henderson) has been able to do with the Lions. The Saints need some playmakers on their defense as it is beginning to move towards bend don't break defense. This could be a corner, but Henderson is multipurpose and hard to pass up.
24. New England Patriots (via Cowboys via Browns)-Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas
The Patriots main goal in getting so many late first round picks is to restock their defense who are getting up there in years. Seau, Harrison, Seymore, these are all players on the downward side of the hill. Now Talib gives them someone opposite Rolle to continue to fight the Colts' passing attack.
25. San Diego Chargers-Vince Hall, ILB, Virginia Tech
The Chargers have been missing that dominating inside force this season, which has limited what Shawn Merriman has been able to do. I have Hall the highest out of my linebackers right now and I think is the most NFL ready linebacker available. They could go d-line, I just don't there's one worth taking this high.
26. New England Patriots (via Seahawks)-Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC
The rich just keep getting richer don't they? Of course I find it odd that one slot changes my opinion of there isn't a defensive lineman worth taking that high. There may not be, but the Pats know USC has given them great defenders before so why not take Jackson now before they lose out on him later in the draft?
27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Derek Harvey, DE, Florida
I should have just shut my mouth when I wrote the Chargers bit shouldn't I? Anyways, the Buccs have had a resurgence this year, but they do still need to get a dominate pass rusher since losing Simeon Rice. Harvey is a local kid and moves like that almost always pleases the fans.
28. Pittsburgh Steelers-Steve Justice, C, Wake Forest
In my opinion Steve Justice may turn out to be the best offensive lineman that is taken in this draft. He has that versatility and determination to be the best which will help him in the NFL. He can play guard or center I believe, and with the fact that the Steelers may be losing Faneca in the offseason, you have to take Justice this high.
29. New England Patriots (via Cowboys)-Dan Connor, OLB, Penn St
I believe Connor will fall this far because he won't be a combine stud like some of the linebackers taken ahead of him. You also haven't heard his name on tv like you did all of last year, and as such his name drifts from people's mind. He's a solid player and a work horse who would fit in beautifully with the Patriots.
30. Indianapolis Colts-Kirk Barton, OT, Ohio St
You've seen what has happened to the Colts with all their injuries, especially to their offensive line this season. They have the rookie Ugoh who has filled in quite well, but they need the other side covered as well. Barton is the highest tackle on my board at this point so I have to expect the Colts will attack this problem first.
31. Green Bay Packers-Jonathon Stewart, RB, Oregon
Ryan Grant may be the solution to the Packers' running back woes...this season. Is he the long term solution, I don't know. What I do know is Stewart is a special kind of player who would be loved in Wisconsin and Lambeau Field. The Packers go with the Patriots style of thinking and take the best player available.
32. New England Patriots-Forefitted

Round 2
33. Miami Dolphins-Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan
34. New York Jets-Jerod Mayo, ILB, Tennessee
35. Atlanta Falcons-Harry Douglas, WR, Louisville
36. Minnesota Vikings-Tom Zbikowski, S, Notre Dame
37. San Francisco 49ers-Alex Mack, C, Cal
38. Oakland Raiders-Jaison Williams, WR, Oregon
39. St Louis Rams-Ali Highsmith, OLB, LSU
40. Batltimore Ravens-Tony Hills, OT, Texas
41. Carolina Panthers-Erik Ainge, QB, Tennessee
42. Atlanta Falcons (via Texans)-Shannon Tevaga, G, UCLA
43. Cincinnati Bengals-Michael Hamlin, S, Clemson
44. Chicago Bears-Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona
45. Arizona Cardinals-Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia
46. Denver Broncos-Heath Benedict, T, Newberry
47. Buffalo Bills-Fred Davis, TE, USC
48. Kansas City Chiefs-Adarius Bowman, WR, Oklahoma St
49. Detroit Lions-Justin King, CB, Penn St
50. Philadelphia Eagles-Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn
51. Washington Redskins-Beau Bell, ILB, UNLV
52. Jacksonville Jaguars-Jovorskie Lane, FB, Texas A&M
53. New York Giants-Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers
54. Tennessee Titans-DeJuan Tribble, CB, Boston College
55. New Orleans Saints-Titus Brown, DE, Mississippi St
56. Cleveland Browns-Red Bryant, DT, Texas A&M
57. Miami Dolphins (via Chargers)-Ben Moffitt, ILB, South Florida
58. Seattle Seahawks-Mike Hart, RB, Michigan
59. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Darry Beckwith, OLB, LSU
60. Pittsburgh Steelers-Roy Schuenig, G, Oregon St
61. Seattle Seahawks (via Patriots via Cowboys)-Drew Radovich, G, USC
62. Indianapolis Colts-Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
63. Green Bay Packers-Jacob Tamme, TE, Kentucky
64. New England Patriots-Josh Barrett, S, Arizona St

Miami- Still convinced they will go for a QB, Lemon just got benched and as of now, have a rookie with no experience.

Jets- Love it! They are def following Parcells defensive drafting model from Dallas.

Minnesota- Nahhh, they to need a QB badly. I can see Ryan here, he is NFL ready.

Can you imagine Jones, Barber, and McFadden in Dallas?? Truely a dream come true for Cowboy fan

Raiders- A given.

Baltimore- Andre Woodson would thrive here. Baltimore just needs to get more tools. They have holes EVERYWHERE

Panthers- The Dan Morgan days seem over with this pick. Good call

Bengals- YES YES YES, hell, anything on the defensive end of the ball is a must need!! Seems the only thing going good for em are USC players.

Bears will go QB, but i doubt ryan will last this long.

Broncos- Jenkins would fit in this sceme like a hand in glove. Good call

Bills- One thing they dont need is a WR, they need some help on the OLine or a TE.

Redskins- Finally drafting outside of Miami. oh, and this kid can play great football!!

Titans- Alas, a WR Young can count on

Chargers- Hall and Merriman, one hell of a LB corp

Steelers- God help us all if anyone drafts a Wake player. More reason for me to hate the Steelers. Exept Ben and Health, got em on fantasy =)

Colts- This pick alone could get them back to the SB. Other than injuries, this spot is a widening hole. Nice call

Packers- You REALLY want Farve to stay another year dont ya. I can see the drool running down his chin as we speak

Dolpins- Manningway would be a hell of an addition and good replacement for Chambers

Niners- A good start. We do well with Cal folk

Panthers- Does this mean Uncle Danny would take the Bobcats job?? Not bad, but I tend to be the anti-Tenn QB person. Is it bad i hope this kid turns out to be Chris Simms??

They drafted John Beck in the second round LAST YEAR, that and no QB this year is worth the number one spot, is the reason I have the Dolphins taking Dorsey.

The Vikings will pick up a QB on the market, not in the top ten. Not when they can get more protection for QB and Purple Jesus.

DeSean Jackson isn't being drafted for his ability to play wide receiver, it's his ability to return kicks.

I don't think Farve will stay if he makes it to the Super Bowl.

As long as Gibbs is still in DC, don't assume we'll have those draft picks come time to use em.

I know its awful to say, but the man really doesn't do much with the team now as it is, and I can't say as I see us getting any better anytime soon regardless of draft picks or overpriced vets.

Miami would be smart taking Campbell or Long. Dorsey is overrated like most LSU lineman. Plus with his recent injury history I would be weary. Dorsey doesn't fit Miami's 3-4 defense and Dorsey more of 4-3 tackle. Plus Campbell and Long are better prospects.

Pompy, I completely agree with you. The issue is, will Miami agree with us?
