Mid-Season NFL Mock Draft Rounds 1 and 2

This order was made by current records, projected records and power rankings. My big trade shake up this week was not the signing of Derek Anderson by the Vikings giving us a pick in the first round. No, this time the Patriots trade down with the Cowboys who then get the second pick in the draft, which I'm sure will irritate SayHey.

1. Miami Dolphins-Jake Long, T, Michigan
There are those who believe the Dolphins should spend this pick on a quarterback, I disagree. You haven't even seen what John Beck can do for you and Cleo Lemon is decent enough, at least better then Trent Green is nowadays. Give them a tackle to block for Ronnie Brown and protect their quarterback, that's the SMART thing.
2. Dallas Cowboys (via Patriots/Niners)-Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Some will probably wonder why I have the Pats trading away the number two pick. Well, they want quality AND quantity and they are the type of franchise to trade down get multiple picks so that they can replace their aging veterans. The Cowboys make this trade so they can snag Dorsey, the best defensive player in the draft, after all Wade Phillips is a defensive minded guy.
3. Atlanta Falcons-Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
Bobby Petrino is given one more year by the Falcons, it's the least they could do. In return he begins to turn the Falcons into the Cardinals by drafting his quarterback who can play right away since he knows the offense. Part two begins in the second round. Hell, will he draft someone who isn't from Louisville this year?
4. New York Jets-Calais Campbell, DE, Miami
Some think the Jets are going to take Chris Long, I disagree. They LOVE The U players, see Jonathon Vilma, and I think they'll take the more athletic Campbell to fill the void they've had since Abraham went to Hotlanta.
5. Chicago Bears-Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
There is no question that the Bears need to take a QB. There are three first round QBs in this draft and I think Lovie will take the most NFL ready quarterback, no matter how tasty Andre Woodson will look.
6. St Louis Rams-Sam Baker, T, USC
Orlando Pace is getting old and they need his eventual replacement sooner rather then later so they take Sam Baker who will do a solid job. I don't think he'll be another Pace, but maybe at least a Willie Road.
7. Baltimore Ravens-Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
You know Ozzie is gonna try something crazy for once and go after Andre Woodson. Baltimore would love this kid (the fans at least) and he can have at least a year to learn from Steve McNair. Kyle Boller is going to be a free agent soon, and they need their QB of the future...again.
8. Oakland Raiders-Chris Long, DE, Virginia
You know as soon as the Raiders get this far without Chris Long being drafted that the fans will be salivating at the thought of having the son of Howie on their team. It's a perfect fit as I'm sure Long the Younger has the same mentality as the father and it gets the fans excited once again.
9. Houston Texans-Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
As soon as the Raiders select Chris Long Gary Kubiak will ejeculate all over his draft board with the thought that Darren McFadden just fell into his lap. Though I think they're gonna have to move up if they think no one else is going to move up into the draft to get a hold of McFadden.
10. Buffalo Bills-Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
Marv Levy is a football God, and he knows he needs a dominate defensive tackle to keep lineman off of Poz. Adding Ellis makes a very good defense into possibly a GREAT defense. I could also see the Bills making a play for DeSean Jackson as well.
11. Arizona Cardinals-Gosder Cherilus, T, Boston College
They need an offensive line, this is the big glaring hole in the Arizona team. Wisenhunt and Grimm are o-line guys and would be enamored with all four big name tackles in this draft. I went with Cherilus over Richardson as he is ranked higher right now, it honestly could go any way at this slot.
12. Philadelphia Eagles-Keith Rivers, OLB, USC
This was a tough selection, but I went with Rivers as I think one of the Ryan boys will end up being the head coach in Philadelphia this time next year and they're both defensive guys. They don't need to spend a first round in the secondary, but I think they're gonna love the style of play that Keith Rivers brings.
13. Minnesota Vikings-DeSean Jackson, WR, Cal
They don't want Peterson running back kicks and the like, so they get a play maker in Jackson to do that for them. Returners are going to be the next big thing in the NFL (see Hester, Cribbs, L. Washington) and Minnesota is going to want a piece of that. It also assists their receiving corps, which always helps. Next round they take a QB, I doubt they'll spend a first rounder on a QB.
14. Carolina Panthers-James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio St
Dan Morgan has been hampered by concussions these last few years and I think that is where the break down has been in the very talented Panthers D. The Road Warrior gives them someone again who will be all over the field absolutely killing people. He fits that attack style defense Carolina likes to run.
15. Cincinnati Bengals-Kenny Phillips, S, Miami
The Bengals need a HUGE upgrade on defense, so they take a real play maker in Phillips who takes some pressure off those corners they've taken in the first round the last few years. Especially since they're gonna play teams who are pass happy, they need a menacing force in the secondary.
16. Denver Broncos-Jonathon Stewart, RB, Oregon
They have about ten running backs on their roster, but none of them have come out and declared themselves THE number one running backs on the Broncos. Jonathon Stewart is going to be a great NFL running back and will look like Clinton Portis in the Broncos jersey. They also could go for Malcolm Jenkins here as well, which would make everything interesting.
17. New York Giants-Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia
For some reason the Giants ownership and front offense are obsessed with the whole Thunder and Lightning approach to the running game. They also play Westbrook twice a year and they really want a player like that who can elevate the game of Eli like Westbrook does McNabb.
18. Kansas City Chiefs-Barry Richardson, T, Clemson
The Chiefs used to be known for having a solid offensive line year in and year out. This year though it very well may be the Achilles heel of this Chiefs team. Richardson is gonna be a damn solid pro so it should be a no brainier for the Chiefs organization. Then again they may try to get Doucett or another receiver.
19. San Diego Chargers-Early Doucett, WR, LSU
As of right now the Chargers have Chris Chambers and Antonio Gates, that is about the extent of their receiving corps. The other receivers they drafted haven't risen to the level the Chargers were expecting. Teams are loading up against LT now, so they need someone who can stretch the field for Phillip Rivers.
20. Seattle Seahawks-Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers
As we can see this year with Shaun Alexander, the Seahawks need a new running back in the worst way. Ray Rice will be an intriguing prospect here at twenty. They may go for Mike Hart, but could be worried about drafting a Michigan running back.
21. Jacksonville Jaguars-Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan
The Jaguars are still looking for a wide receiver. Scratch that, they are looking for a wide receiver that can actually catch. Manningham has some GREAT play making ability, it's just a matter of motivating him to play to his full potential. I think Del Rio can properly motivate Manningham to play to that potential.
22. Washington Redskins-Dre Moore, DT, Maryland
The big gap on the Redskins defense appears to be in the middle at defensive tackle. They take the local kid Dre Moore from Maryland to try to fill that gap and give their linebackers time to make some plays. They could also go for some Virginia Tech guys like Adibi or Hall, but I think D Tackle is a more pressing need for the Skins.
23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio St
The Buccs are always looking to get better on defense, and jump at the chance to take the top corner available in the draft. You can only imagine what that secondary would do with Jenkins, and Gruden can't wait to add him to his team. Another option could be a reach for a quarterback, but Gruden prefers veterans anyways.
24. Tennessee Titans-Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
The Titans need to give Vince Young some weapons so he can actually throw. He's thrown to Sweed before, they've worked well together and I think he'll have a lot to say as to who he wants to throw to. He goes the alumni route and brings in Sweed so there is no learning curve.
25. Detroit Lions-Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas
The Lions appear to be ready for the big boys offensively, but still need some help defensively. Jason Campbell did well against them, that doesn't say much about your defense. Talib will end up being the best corner taken from this draft, and he fills the hole left by Dre Bly.
26. New England Patriots (via Cowboys/Browns-Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
I shall call this pick the Junior Seau pick. They even go to his own school to take Maualuga to keep the winners keep on winning. Maualuga will fit in perfectly with the Patriots style of defense. They could use this pick to move up and get The Road Warrior, who I hear they absolutely love, but we'll see.
27. New Orleans Saints-Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
The Saints need to upgrade their D if they want to get to the Super Bowl. They take the local LSU kid Jackson to attempt to create a pass rush that they're gonna need to beat the Cowboys, Patriots and Colts. Jackson will be an average/above-average player so a solid pick at 27.
28. New England Patriots (via Cowboys)-Tom Zbikowski, S, Notre Dame
The Rodney Harrison pick, The Z Man from the Golden Domers. He likely already knows the defense as I think Weis runs the same system. He's a boxer so you know he's a tough son of a bitch who likes to hit that can replace Harrison when he retires.
29. Pittsburgh Steelers-Xavier Adibi, OLB, Virginia Tech
This pick is sort of a toss up for me. I don't know what the Steelers are really missing so I went with the best linebacker on my board with Adibi. They might also stretch and go with the Tevaga, the guard from UCLA if they lose their pro bowl guard in the offseason.
30. Indianapolis Colts-Tony Hills, T, Texas
Tony Ugeoh was a great pick last year and has filled in superbly when the starter went out before the season began. Their line is getting older, so this is the smart pick to start replenishing their offensive line. Hills should do well as he is a solid blocker, and may set the record for most tackles taken in the first round.
31. Green Bay Packers-Michael Hamlin, S, Clemson
The Packers have been building their defense the last few years, and they continue to do so with Hamlin from Clemson. I think they're also salivating at the thought of adding The Road Warrior to their roster as well, re teaming him with AJ Hawk. They also could go with an offensive line, which is a popular pick this low in the draft.
32. New England Patriots-Forfeit=Spygate

Round 2
1. Miami Dolphins-Derek Harvey, DE, Florida
2. San Francisco 49ers-Jaison Williams, WR, Oregon
3. Atlanta Falcons-Harry Douglas, WR, Louisville
4. New York Jets-Fred Davis, TE, USC
5. Chicago Bears-Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona
6. St Louis Rams-Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC
7. Baltimore Ravens-Adarius Bowman, WR, Oklahoma St
8. Oakland Raiders-Alex Mack, C, Cal
9. Houston Texans-Kirk Barton, T, Ohio St
10. Buffalo Bills-Jacob Tamme, TE, Kentucky
11. Arizona Cardinals-Dan Connor, OLB, Penn St
12. Philadelphia Eagles-Mike Hart, RB, Michigan
13. Minnesota Vikings-Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon
14. Carolina Panthers-Erik Ainge, QB, Tennessee
15. Cincinnati Bengals-Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn
16. Denver Broncos-Shannon Tevaga, G, UCLA
17. New York Giants-Justin King, CB, Penn St
18. Kansas City Chiefs-Steve Justice, C, Wake Forest
19. San Diego Chargers-Red Bryant, DT, Texas A&M
20. Seattle Seahawks-DeJuan Tribble, CB, Boston College
21. Jacksonville Jaguars-Josh Barrett, S, Arizona St
22. Washington Redskins-Erin Henderson, OLB, Maryland
23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Jerod Mayo, ILB, Tennessee
24. Tennessee Titans-Chris Williams, T, Vanderbilt
25. Detroit Lions-Kevin Ellison, S, Lions
26. Cleveland Browns-Frank Okam, DT, Texas
27. New Orleans Saints-Vince Hall, ILB, Virginia Tech
28. Dallas Cowboys-Earl Bennett, WR, Vanderbilt
29. Pittsburgh Steelers-Craig Steltz, S, LSU
30. Indianapolis Colts-Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
31. Green Bay Packers-Jovorskie Lane, FB, Texas A&M
32. New England Patriots-Ali Highsmith, OLB, LSU
