No snow day for you, sucka!

Dews already hit this one, but I'm living through it, so I thought I'd add my two cents.

First, this snowstorm really sucks. No, seriously, it officially sucks. Thank you Weather Service for pointing out what I learned this morning, that the roads are particularly dangerous today.

Okay, so I work for a state agency in Vermont. I'm not going to complain too much about the State's decision to keep all the offices open today, because, if I'd wanted to, I could have just called and taken the day off, probably just using a vacation day. However, I must point out the hilarity of it all. As I walked into work this morning, one of the administrative assistants had the radio playing so she could listen to the news and weather. The State has a hotline that you can call after 5 am to see if State offices are closed or if there is a delayed opening. The radio station played a recording from the hotline, and it said something to the effect that the snow storm was not serious enough to warrant closing or delayed opening. Immediately after that, the radio news guy gave the traffic report: roads closed because of overturned semis, roads closed for being too dangerous, long delays because of accidents, etc, etc, you get the picture.

So, while I look outside and notice that visibility seems to be limited to about two hundred yards and worry about getting home tonight, I'm starting to wonder how comfortable the carpet would be. I hate driving in the snow. But hey, at least it's not serious enough out there to warrant closing. I'd hate to see what that's like.

Never question the Governments intentions. I always do and never seem to get a half way decent response.

Luckily for us DC'ers, The Gov is rather quick to close a Federal Building.

yup, and its kinda nice here today :)

not to rub salt in your wounds or anything, but you could prolly use it to melt a path to your car HA!!!

:)

Dews, you're officially turning into a self-important Southern prick. I may hate you right about now.

Dews said...

haha, I joke because I can relate :)

You can leave too you know... You don't know the power of the dark side...

The South rocks man... Awesome accents, Sonic everywhere, overly tolerant folks :)

Dewey, Cheatem, & Howe said...

I dunno if I'd trade Dunkin' Donuts for Sonic dude. I hear you can't find one on every block in the South like you can up here.

And don't get started on Southern "tolerance" and "manners" and the Southern accent. I may not get anything done for the rest of the day.

The worst part is I bet there are still a bunch of people there today too? Always seems like on those days nobody wants to be the person that doesn't come in...

SayHey Kid said...

I do hate the humidity in the summer though

Dews- It is a lovely day out, however, we do have a wind advisory for tonight and tomorrow.

Dews said...

I'll make that trade any day man. I'm not a fan of sweets anyway though, so its pretty easy.

Sonic really really needs to be in DC though, and not all the way out near Dewey beach...

I usually compare the Cracker Barrel eatery as the Starbucks of the south. There is one of every corner.

You knocking our southern heritage boyyyy? Remember, the Conferderate flag represents our "proud" southern heritage

SayHey Kid said...

I agree........But you havent eaten until you've eaten at the In and Out. Shame its only a west coast thing

Dews said...

Best bumper sticker ever (seen in Boone NC).

"North - 1 South - 0... Halftime"

Dewey, Cheatem, & Howe said...

Oh yes, "proud Southern heritage." Isn't that synonymous with "States' rights" as used in Little Rock, Arkansas in the late 1950s through middle 1970s? If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch the Eyes of the Prize documentary.

I'm not into Dunkin' Donuts for the donuts, Dews, I'm into it for the coffee. You should know that. I'm disappointed in you. You really have gone over to the Dark Side, haven't you?

SayHey Kid said...

Well its also synonymous with pro-slavery.

DD has great coffee indeed.

Dews said...

Sorry guys, I prefer Starbucks...

I like the strong stuff better, but thats not a southern thing, thats just corporate douchebaggery if anything.

Sonic has Chili Cheese Tater tots and Vanilla malts!!! How can that possibly be trumped?

SayHey Kid said...

Easily- In and Out Burgers Double BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger. Puts everything else to absolute shame.

Starbucks is great, dont get me wrong!

Dewey, Cheatem, & Howe said...

DD's coffee is part crack. Automatic trump. Enough said.

SayHey Kid said...

Well said sir!

Whoooaaaa....sorry I'm getting into this conversation late. First thing first, Dunkin' Donuts over SONIC? Who are you people? Who raised you? Sonic is the shiz. Where else can you get a 40 oz drink of some concotion you've made up for like 95 cents? And don't even get me started on the brown bag specials.

Also, how can you not love a good southern accent? I must say I'm a little offended. ;)You need to meet a good southern gal (like me).

southern accents=HOT

Dews said...

So is Starbucks though, but the only one I know of in VT is in Burlington as part of a Barnes and Nobles...

Ok, trade stands as such...

North gives up:
Dunkin Donuts

South gives up:
Sonic
Cracker barrel
Waffle House
Pat O'Brians
Chick Filet
Drago's (Nawlins)
Biscuits and Gravy
Grits

Deal?

Dews said...

Finally Kim chimes in with some sense! :)

Thought I'd be defending Sonic and the south alone :)

Shane Rollins said...

Allow me to jump in here children.

One, DD coffee beats Starbucks Coffee. Mainly because Starbucks doesn't have just coffee. They have Espresso, lattes and mochas, but no coffee.

Sonic is nice...if you're from the South.

The West Coast has the greatest Fast Food places alive. Carl's Jr beats everything...except for the real winner, In and Out. Imagine Five Guys....but better.

SayHey Kid said...

Kim- A sexy southern accent drives any man crazy. But there is a fine line between southern belle and Britany Spears, er i mean trailer park.

South also gave us:
Civil War reenactments
Coca-Cola
Bud Light
Nascar

Not many positives here I know

SayHey Kid said...

Carls Jr is the same thing as Hardee's though. And YES, refer to Shanes "In and Out comparison". Its pure fact

DD is pure crack.....hence is is pure goodness!

Dewey, Cheatem, & Howe said...

Look, "y'all," I have several bases of comparison that underlie my love of certain things Northern.

First, I lived in Missouri for two and half years. We had a Sonic. I'm not impressed. I'll take my coffee-crack from DD over a sugar-loaded blue concoction any friggin' day of the week. Now, you want to start talking about Carl's Jr. or Jack in the Box, we might have discussion, but on DD v. Sonic, I have to say that I'm picking DD.

Southern accents: I dated a girl from rural Virgina (Pulaski) and I grew to loathe the accent on women. I've had a number of good male friends who've had the accent, and I have no problem with it on my friends, but women, no. I have a psychological block against southern women.

That said, I'm not against giving Southern women another try ;) Dews, I'll come to visit as soon as you get your own place.

Shane Rollins said...

No, it isn't Hardee's. They were owned by the same company, had the same logo, but the food was completely different. Hardees failed to have crisscut fries or the Western Bacon Cheeseburger.

Kim, sorry dear, as sexy as your southern accent is I'm more partial to mid-west and british accents

Dewey, Cheatem, & Howe said...

The South doesn't get to claim Bud Light, that's Anheuser-Busch, therefore St. Louis, therefore Midwest.

Dews said...

Hey, I'm always open to trying new places, but until I have one of these places you speak of, Sonic is the end-all-be-all of fast food goodness (just goodness in general).

I guess I just don't understand the DD coffee thing though...

I'm beginning to think that I may have been adopted from some southern baptist family in the south, since I hate Boston and NY, don't care for DD (prefer Starbucks), and would take Sonic over most anything...

Kim said...

Don't forget that the south also gave us Dr. Pepper!

And while Britney Spears is from the south, let's remember that there is trailer trash in every state (I've been to Vermont).

SayHey Kid said...

Give me an Eastern European accent any day!!

Shane- Well, other than that, they are rather identical.

DC&H- Theres your problem, you dated a Rural Virginian. Nothing reeks redneck more than that. I grew up in Southern VA, there are plenty of hot southern accents, you just need to dig for em

SayHey Kid said...

Well, spent my young adult in the south. Spent plenty of my youth in the Bay Area.

Kim- Well played!

Dews said...

Kim, AMEN! :)

Most of em were pregnant or had a kid already when I was a junior in High school! :)

Southern Accent = Hot

SayHey Kid said...

Eh, Bud is brewed in Williamsburg. I had to smell that shit furment everyday for an entire summer. Hence to me, its southern.

Dews- Call it Carpetbaggers revenge!

Dewey, Cheatem, & Howe said...

There certainly is trailer trash in Vermont. Dews and I grew up around it and battled it on a daily basis during summer vacations.

I have a very vivid memory of throwing an apple my cousin once, narrowly missing him and also narrowly missing some guy's hot rod. That guy (he looked like he should be in ZZ Top) came out of the car and charged after me. I thought he was going to kill me. It was awesome.
