SayHey's Blog-O-Fun
So much in the news today. As I patiently await Shanes mock draft, i read that there is alot more going on in the world not named Heath Ledger.
After weeks of rocket attacks, Israel closed down the settlement at the Gaza Strip. The result: Tens of thousands of Palestinians tore down a 7 mile Egyptian wall and made a mass exodus INTO Egypt. Does anyone other than me find the irony in this??
A man was turned himself into Police at the Ronald Reagan International Airport for passing a gun through a Security Checkpoint. Funny thing is that the Screening Officer cleared before the guy realized he had a gun in his suitcase. Yes, Ronald Reagan International Airport is only 2 clicks away from the Pentagon.
The academy award nominees were announced yesterday and I might actually watch this year. Oh wait, that strike thing is still going on. Im pulling for anything not named "Atonement". Its bad when my girlfriend says the movie is "pure crap and an utter waste of time". My favorites include PT for best Director and DDL for best actor. Sorry Shane, Rambo JUST missed out!!
Along with the Oscars, the Razzie nominations were announced. Of course it wouldnt be a Razzie year without multiple Lindsey Lohan categories
It appears the new movie "Cloverfield" should be adding warning signs before the flick starts. because people have been complaining about motion sickness. I do get it and understand that complaint 100%. People: Treat this movies cinematography as if you gave your 2 year old a camera to play. Yeh, its kinda like that.
And finally, nothing makes me happier than some good ole fashioned racism. Of course im joking but whoever did this managed to piss off Everybody!! Some redneck out in SoCo decided to raise a Nazi flag on their school campus. Oh did I mention this happened on Martin Luther King Jr Day (Better known as Lee Jackson King day in Virginia)? Nothing would give me great pleasure than this guy getting beated and hung upside down from his "marbles"

Nothing ironic about Palestinians running to Egypt after that wall was torn down. They just wanted to buy things that the Israelis won't let them have, like food and medicine.
Ya missed my point. It was biblical irony, thats all.
Israel wont let them have any of that because they continue to fire rockets at them. I dont blame Israel one bit.
Eh, I blame Israel.
I gotta admit, I'm in Dewey's camp on this one...
A lot of the problems we have with both sides is neither side being the "grown-up" and coming to the table looking to solve rather then "win" the conflict.
That being said, because Israel is our little brother in the area complete with Nukes and all kindsa badassness, the burden of diplomacy I place on them is much higher then stone-throwing nutty's...
I disagree. Everytime there is a ceasefire it is not Israel who breaks it. Israel justs wants to live in peace, do their thing. It is Palestine and other Arab countries who want only one thing, death to Israel. Israel had the capability to more or less conquer the middle east in the 60s, they didn't. They showed better restrain then we ever have. They just want to live and let live, but will retaliate when fired upon, and so would I.
Remember, there has never been a country ever called Palestine.
Israel always initiates peace talks (Or the US, who essentially acts as a proxy for Israel at times). What else can Israel do?? Give up their country or bow to Islamic calls for mass genocide??
When is enough, enough?? Why should Israel bend when their country constantly gets rocket attacked and or suicide bombed. And your telling me Israel is to blame?? Wow, not what I expected.
I'm not blaming Israel for the situation they're in, but lets face it, if we gave as much foreign aid to the people occupying the Palestinian refuge camps, they'd be a bit more inspired to do something other then work for the one show in town that does pay well (Read: Hamas).
It doesn't help when one side is blamed for the actions of a guerilla force that seized control of portions of the territories by bombing the shit out of infrastructure and "targeted" assasinations.
Why in the world aren't we fighting this the same way we won the cold war? Invest heavily in developing nations to build up their infrastructure and make them WANT to do better rather then continually be pissed that they aren't?
Seems to me that would be a more effective game then tit for tat.
I wouldn't be all that psyched about my life (and thus more likely to sacrifice it in the name of something that sounds far more important) if I lived in that complete destitution...
I'm with Dews on this one. Israel can hardly take the high road. Yes, Israelis have suffered suicide bombings and rocket attacks. However, Palestinians have been crowded into refugee camps, have had their access to the world cut off by Israel, and live in complete and utter despair. And then, as if that weren't enough, ultra-Zionist Israelis do their best to add insult to injury by creating settlements in Palestinian areas. Palestinians might be guilty of terror, but it seems Israel is guilty of the same.
And yes, Israeli ought to be able to defend itself. But as a civilized nation it ought to at least comprehend proportionality of response. Bulldozing the homes of civilians, shooting at folks who have only rocks, and these decapitation strikes are not proportional to the danger that Israelis live with.
I will say, I'm glad we found an issue that we can all disagree on. :)
Gets kinda boring if we all toe the party-line and all...
The key though is those folks who are not with Hamas could do something about it, in some way, but don't. Israel protects its land, perhaps a bit overzealous, but that's more of a do more then necessary and maybe they will understand not to do it again.
The problem isn't Palestine, it's the surrounding countries that tell those in Palestine to fight Israel. Israel isn't going to invade those countries, so they must fight. I'm not saying I would do what Israel does, but we have the luxury of not having to worry about a suicide bomber on our buses.
The people of Israel have to worry about terrorist attacking them every day, and not in the Bush Administration sense.
In complete agreement with Shane. I asked Dews this earlier and he had nothing:
What would you do in a situation like that? What short term solution would you impose on a country constantly bombing and murdering your civilians?? Sure many are not to blame but if they strongly opposed their government, they would do something. Its been done before, look at Post-Communist Eastern Europe as a key example.
I dont think we are in any position to criticize.
