Java & Fish Wrap 08.20.08 Complete Game Edition

Good Morning everyone, no, we will not spend all day ragging on SayHey about his team giving up a complete game to the Marlins. It was their first complete game since 2006, just over 300 games. To put it into context Roy Halladay has had 15 himself during that time span. That's ok though, his team at least kept the Marlins from scoring in the double digits, I can't claim that.

The good news this morning is we now have a plan in place in case the Nazis try to invade Poland again.

It's nice to see that Texas isn't as different as California as this former Governor follows the Jerry Brown path of politics.

Well, the GOP plans a counter convention in Denver, with apparenlty the headliner being Mitt Romney, which makes sense since no one in his party wants him around. Of course Mitt Romney doesn't have, say, the drawing power of the greatest political band of all time. I know the Republicans have this and the Ron Paul convention going on at the same time, but nothing formal by the Democrats that I can remember. This is a bit of a tantrum then if you ask me, trying to prove that the entire country doesn't hate them, just half. I honestly have no idea what this is supposed to accomplish except to take coverage away from the convention itself? Dews, thoughts?

Sadly, the truth wasn't out there at that press conference last week. No word of yet if that really was Roddy McDowell's coffin.

Good news over at MSNBC, Rachel Maddow is getting her own show, replacing Dan Abrams. This is good news as it eliminates, one by one, the wolves in sheeps clothing on MSNBC.

Once again, it feels like parents wanting the schools to raise their children and not do the job themselves. Look, I don't have a problem spanking your child but where I draw the line is when you allow some stranger who is supposed to be educating your child, not beating them.

It appears the first big step in the West Memphis Three case finally happened and their lawyers will be given a three-week slate to go over the new information to see if it can grant the boys a new trial.

Well, it's official Senator Joe Liberman is offically the Benedict Arnold of the 21st century.

Note to all Republicans who want to suppose they know how a deceased legend would act in an election, check with the legend's family before you go running your mouth there Mr. Rich. Ask the Dixie Chicks if country means Republican.

Good news for Dews, in a way, the O's became the fastest team to draw 50 million fans into their stadium. Of course, as the article says, those fans are mostly Red Sox and Yankees fans...

I know Dewey feels this, but our thoughts and prayers go out to Carl Yastrzemski who underwent a triple bypass yesterday and is still with us thankfully.

Someone needs to remind Marshall Faulk and everyone else who complains about Matt Cassel's performance that the man was a career backup in college and the fact he's been on a NFL roster since then is damn near a miracle, ask Tim Couch.

Finally, this is the best news fans could ever hope to receive as the original geniuses have signed on to work with Guillermo del Toro on the Hobbit. Words cannot begin to express how huge this is, how The Hobbit may now actually be better then the Lord of the Rings since del Toro is a much better director then Peter Jackson.

Looks like the GOP is taking a page out of the old Hippy-playbook when they protested the 72 GOP Convention held in Miami beach.

Of course, Nixon was in power at that point, so was able to abuse all manner of civil rights to all those involved (Gainesville 8 anyone?), so this isn't totally stealing from the Hippies this time around as their boy Bush is still in power.

This might be closer to the 68 Democratic convention in Chicago where a large wing of the Democratic party was protesting the process, war, and basically how the Democratic party was screwing everything up in the wake of Bobby Kennedy's assasination. I say this is more similar because this one got really ugly really fast, and knowing how heated the debate and the partisanship seems to have gotten in recent years (Arkansas Dem Leader assasinated?), this has a chance of getting very ugly.

Just goes to show that we could literally own the Orioles if we so chose.

I'm not totally up on my Hobbit-LoTR lore. What story will that sequel to the Hobbit, prequel to LoTR tell? What happened?

O's are not a small-market team douchebag. The shouting matches between your "nation" assholes and O's fans was actually pretty even for most the series.

At least we make it affordable to come to the best stadium in the AL instead of corporatizing everything...

Douchebag...
