2008 NFL Mock Draft Rounds 1-5 Jan 15th

That's right ladies and gentlemen I have upped the mock draft to include Round 5, which is an interesting round cause that's where you see a lot of trades taking place. Already there are five teams with other teams' picks, and the Ravens without a draft selection due to the Supplemental Draft. The big news coming out today is that Road Warrior Buckeye is staying in school another year and Felix Jones has decided to come out. I thought Felix was going to stay in school, I really did.

These make things a bit more interesting as now I really see the Patriots becoming a wild card in the first round. We very well may see more trades and such this year in the first round then we have in years. Perhaps next week will be the monthly possible trades Mock Draft, we'll see.


ROUND 1
1. Miami Dolphins-Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
There is no question in my mind that he will be the first overall selection after Monday's National Title game. Parcells drafted a defensive player in the first round each of his years as the coach in Dallas.
2. St Louis Rams-Jake Long, OT, Michigan
This is almost set in stone the minute Orlando Pace announces his retirement. Hell, it may be set in stone if he doesn't announce.
3. Atlanta Falcons-Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
I think the key with this selection is who actually ends up being the Head Coach of the Falcons. I'm thinking they're going with an offensive minded coach, but if it is Singletary I wouldn't rule out Chris Long or James Laurinaitis.
4. Oakland Raiders-Chris Long, DE, Virginia
This selection couldn't fall to them any prettier if it was on a silver platter. Though I wouldn't put it past a team to try to trade up to get Darren McFadden.
5. Kansas City Chiefs-Ryan Clady, OT, Boise St
I still believe the Larry Johnson trade and selection of Darren McFadden is a definite possibility. The one thing though is who has the psychiatrist to deal with Larry Johnson?
6. New York Jets-Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
Let me defend this pick. The Jets and Patriots are entered into a blood feud now and there is now way Mangini is going to let the best offense in the NFL have Darren McFadden. They could trade out with a team who wants McFadden, but if they don't get the price they like they're going to take him, Thomas Jones be damned.
7. New England Patriots (via 49ers)-Dan Connor, ILB, Penn State
Their linebacking corps, as good as it is, is getting up their in age, save for Thomas. Dan Connor is able to play inside or outside and fits that Patriot mentality they have. Though I honestly can see them trading back with this pick, maybe to a Bears or Lions team.
8. Baltimore Ravens-Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
I almost don't think that Ozzie Newsome will draft a quarterback in the first round, especially when they can have their pick of cornerbacks here.
9. Cincinnati Bengals-Keith Rivers, OLB, USC
Protection of Carson Palmer is very important to this team, but protection doesn't mean dick if your defense couldn't stop a wet fart.
10. New Orleans Saints-Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
They have some decent and talented defensive ends, but their defensive tackles are some of the worst starters in the league and the NFC South likes to run the ball.
11. Buffalo Bills-Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas
They play the Patriots twice a year, they need some talent corners to cover all those weapons Brady throws to.
12. Denver Broncos-Jeff Otah, OT, Pitt
They have bigger needs on defense, but all their chips right now is behind Jay Cutler, he must be protected at all costs.
13. Carolina Panthers-Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State
They still have Jake Delhomme so a quarterback is not a first round priority in my eyes. Getting someone opposite Julius Peppers and allowing him to get his pass rush on is though. Gholston would be amazing on that defensive line.
14. Chicago Bears-Sam Baker, OT, USC
I have consulted SayHey's brother, a die-hard Bears fan, and he agreed with my original assessment that the Bears offensive line is old and needs to be upgraded if their offense plans on moving the ball.
15. Detroit Lions-Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State
Matt Millen will be itching to draft a wide receiver, or at least a tight end here. Jenkins is just too promising to pass up for a team that doesn't have a secondary.
16. Arizona Cardinals-Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina
They need a young running back, but this draft is full of running backs. What it isn't full of is first round defensive tackle talent. I know this is a change from their usual Michigan defensive tackle draft, but eventually they'll get one that works.
17. Minnesota Vikings-Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC
They haven't had luck with drafting USC defensive ends, but this Lawrence Jackson kid is something special. Hell, this year may be the equivalent of 1983 quarterbacks when it comes to defensive ends.
18. Houston Texans-Kenny Phillips, S, Miami
They now have a huge playmaker at each level of the defense. Someone needs to come up with a catchy nickname for this defense quickly.
19. Philadelphia Eagles-DeSean Jackson, WR, Cal
They've always been hurt when Westbrook went down, now he doesn't have to do any returning and this gives them a very dangerous weapon to unleash on the NFC East.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
I like it when NFL teams are able to keep local kids, especially when they come with a plethora of talent. Now I don't know if Jenkins can adjust above the Big East, but he has the talent to.
21. Washington Redskins-Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
They finally get that pass rushing threat that they've been missing. Andre Carter gets free now and then, but now he has someone to compliment him. He was more impressive during the national title then Vernon Gholston was.
22. Dallas Cowboys (via Browns)-Reggie Smith, CB, Oklahoma
Anthony Henry isn't getting any younger, and the folks they have right now aren't exactly getting me wet. Reggie Smith may come in right away and be their best corner since Primetime.
23. Pittsburgh Steelers-Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
After Kenny Phillips the safety position is muddled with people who are all about the same. They need a third wide receiver if the offense is going in the direction I expect it to go.
24. Tennessee Titans-Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
A familiar target for Vince Young, and perhaps one that will be around longer then only one year at a time. Gage opposite Sweed could give the Titans a group of wide receivers that they've been missing since their Super Bowl trip.
25. Seattle Seahawks-Jonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon
They could go Fred Davis here, but we saw clearly this weekend what that offense has become without a running game along with it. Stewart is a local kid with a tremendous upside for the Seahawks.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars-James Hardy, WR, Indiana
Go watch a youtube highlight clip of this kid to see how amazing he is, then imagine him being the first legitimate wide receiver that the Jaguars have had in years.
27. New York Giants-Erin Henderson, OLB, Maryland
Their secondary has come along this year and showed true grit, their defensive line is solid, which leaves their linebackers the only blaring weak spot on a very impressive defense.
28. San Diego Chargers-Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois
I know this looks crazy, it very well may be, but hear me out. LT is getting older, and he's getting hurt more often then he used to. Turner is gone this season in free agency which doesn't leave much behind LT. Mendenhall is a special kind of player who could learn from LT and be a great compliment to him.
29. Dallas Cowboys-Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt
Tony Romo was harassed the majority of that game on Sunday. He needs some protection if you want him throwing 300 yard games, and some linemen who don't always jump offsides.
30. San Francisco 49ers (via Colts)-Early Doucet, WR, LSU
In a way this is the perfect selection for the Niners considering who their new offensive coordinator is. He's a fast, sure handed wide receiver and Martz will try to use him like Issac Bruce.
31. Green Bay Packers-Jonathan Hefney, S, Tennesssee
They could go for a running back here, but there are plenty in this draft and you don't want Ryan Grant not feeling appreciated. Their secondary is old in areas, Hefney matched with Bigby would be impressive.

ROUND 2
1. Miami Dolphins-Brandon Flowers, CB, Virginia Tech
Face it, they play Tom Brady and the Patriots passing attack twice a year.
2. St Louis Rams-Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy St
The Rams have two huge needs, offensive line and secondary, we've started work on one...
3. Atlanta Falcons-Marcus Harrison, DT, Arkansas
They have two picks this round, you need tackles from both sides and Harrison is the higher rated of what is available.
4. Oakland Raiders-Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss
He should stay in school, but looks like he's coming out to protect JaMarcus Russell.
5. Kansas City Chiefs-Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan
Bowe is a good solid wide receiver, but Mario is a tall playmaker that could get a lot of attention.
6. New York Jets-Jerod Mayo, ILB, Tennessee
Helps fill that inside and gives the Jets a solid football player.
7. San Francisco 49ers-Josh Barrett, S, Arizona State
The defense is coming along, but haven't had a stud safety since Ronnie Lott
8. Baltimore Ravens-Tracy Porter, CB, Indiana
Porter is more of a cover 2 defensive corner so this could be Godfrey.
9. Cincinnati Bengals-Anthony Collins, OT, Kansas
All their money is in Carson Palmer, they must protect Palmer.
10. New Orleans Saints-Vince Hall, ILB, Virginia Tech
There's a defensive tackle clogging the middle, now there needs to be a linebacker who can make the tackles.
11. Buffalo Bills-Ali Highsmith, OLB, LSU
A nice compliment to Poz, has the right demeanor for that Bills team.
12. Denver Broncos-Charles Godfrey, CB, Iowa
Dre Bly wasn't able to perform like the late Darnett Williams.
13. Carolina Panthers-Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas
The Panthers haven't done much with Foster and Williams, I wager they take another chance on a running back before a QB.
14. Chicago Bears-Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
They take a chance and still end up getting the QB that they would have selected in round one.
15. Detroit Lions-Fred Davis, TE, USC
I don't know if I can name a Lions tight end, ever.
16. Arizona Cardinals-Kevin Smith, RB, UCF
A bit of a risk as he may not transfer over that well, but worth taking here.
17. Minnesota Vikings-Chilo Rachal, G, USC
Putting him opposite of Steve Hutchinson may make them the best guard combo in the NFL.
18. Atlanta Falcons (via Texans)-Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College
No good having a quarterback who is always getting sacked, or a running game with Warrick Dunn that has no holes.
19. Philadelphia Eagles-Kevin Ellison, S, USC
They need a safety and Ellison is a player Phily fan would love the moment they saw him.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Xavier Adibi, OLB, Virginia Tech
Derrick Brooks isn't getting much younger, though Adibi is a bit undersized for NFL outside linebacker.
21. Washington Redskins-Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State
Randall El is a third wide receiver, a slot, they need a real number two opposite Moss, this isn't him though.
22. Cleveland Browns-Darrell Robertson, OLB/DE, Georgia Tech
23. Pittsburgh Steelers-Robert Felton, G, Arkansas
They will likely lose Alan Faneca in the offseason, and Felton has blocked for great running backs.
24. Tennessee Titans-DeJuan Tribble, CB, Boston College
A breaking newsflash, Pacman just go in trouble with the law at a strip club again.
25. Seattle Seahawks-Martellus Bennett, TE, Texas A&M
This is a west coast offense, they need a dynamic tight end to succeed.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars-Geno Hayes, OLB, Florida State
A perfect selection by the team that may overtake the Colts very shortly.
27. New York Giants-Trevor Laws, DT, Notre Dame
They still don't have the dominate playmaker at defensive tackle.
28. Miami Dolphins (via Chargers)-Alex Mack, C, Cal
It's time to start refreshing that offensive line, this is the best interior lineman available.
29. Dallas Cowboys-Kennan Burton, WR, Kentucky
Crayton couldn't catch a cold Sunday, and TO is aging rapidly.
30. Indianapolis Colts-Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
Their offensive line was bruised and battered this season, they need someone opposite Ugoh.
31. Green Bay Packers-Jamaal Charles, RB, Texas
A different kind of pace back for Ryan Grant, plus can be the starter if Grant is a fluke.
32. New England Patriots-Ezra Butler, OLB, Nevada
Let me not mince words, if Butler ends up a Patriot he will be a star.


ROUND 3
1. Miami Dolphins-Adrian Arrington, WR, Michigan
As of right now, is there anyone other then Ginn Jr for John Beck to throw to?
2. St Louis Rams-Derek Harvey, DE, Florida
A speedy defensive end who would do wonders on that indoor race track in St Louis.
3. Atlanta Falcons-Steve Justice, C Wake Forest
The Falcons need to be able to protect their quarterbacks, especially up the middle.
4. New England Patriots (via Raiders)-Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee State
They always seem to restock corners year in and year out.
5. Kansas City Chiefs-Adam Kraus, G, Michigan
To say they need to completely overhaul their offensive line is like saying the Titanic had a minor water problem.
6. New York Jets-Red Bryant, DT, Texas A&M
They still need a dominating nose tackle for their 3-4.
7. San Francisco 49ers-Phil Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma
Loadholt is a man child who blocks his edge by taking up half the field.
8. Buffalo Bills (via Ravens)-Chad Rinehart, G, Northern Iowa
They do need some help on the offensive line, kid could be molded beautifully.
9. Cincinnati Bengals-Pat Sims, DT, Auburn
Folks have been running up the middle on the Bengals this year.
10. New Orleans Saints-John Carlson, TE, Notre Dame
He's not Antonio Gates, but he's at least some sort of target for Brees.
11. Buffalo Bills-Dustin Keller, TE, Purdue
Everett may never play again, and they need this position.
12. Minnesota Vikings (via Broncos)-Barry Richardson, OT, Clemson
Tavaris Jackson needs some protection so he can throw the ball to someone.
13. Carolina Panthers-Joe Flacco, QB, Delaware
They're patient and the end up getting the QB who may end up being the best of his class.
14. Chicago Bears-Tom Zbikowski, S, Notre Dame
Their safeties have routinely gotten themselves hurt year after year.
15. Detroit Lions-Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska
When was there a point in the season when Jon Kitna wasn't running for his life?
16. Arizona Cardinals-Tony Hills, OT, Texas
They need to keep Pretty Boy Floyd protected from that vaunted Rams pass rush.
17. Minnesota Vikings-Craig Steltz, S, LSU
It would definitely make for an interesting secondary in Minnesota.
18. Houston Texans-Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers
This would be a complete steal at this point in the draft.
19. Philadelphia Eagles-Calais Campbell, DE, Miami
Campbell is a monster, now if only the Eagles could start his motor.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii
Garcia can be used as a mentor and Gruden can try molding a rookie quarterback for once.
21. Washington Redskins-Marcus Griffin, S, Texas
Far enough back he shouldn't be expected to be Sean Taylor, but these are Redskin fans.
22. Cleveland Browns-Brian Robiskie, WR, Ohio State
A kid with connections to the franchise, gives Anderson a nice number two.
23. Pittsburgh Steelers-Jamie Silva, S, Boston College
Troy is close to retirement already, they need his understudy.
24. Tennessee Titans-Frank Okam, DT, Texas
They may lose Haynesworth in the offseason and they love Texas players.
25. Seattle Seahawks-Erik Young, G, Tennessee
Part of their problem is they no longer have any decent interior linemen.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars-Wesley Woodard, S, Kentucky
Their safeties are getting older, Woodard fits this defense like a glove.
27. New York Giants-Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona
Even with their improved play, their secondary needs some youth.
28. Chicago Bears (via Chargers)-DJ Hall, WR, Alabama
If Bernard Berrian stays in Chicago I'll shit a brick.
29. Dallas Cowboys-Allen Patrick, RB, Oklahoma
Julius Jones is going to be gone via free agency.
30. Indianapolis Colts-Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn
Their defense needs some new blood, Groves is perfect for their scheme.
31. Green Bay Packers-Roy Schuening, G, Oregon State
This is about the time the Packers restock the shelves of their offensive line.
32. New England Patriots-Michael Hamlin, S, Clemson
A spunky player who could learn a great deal from Rodney Harrison.


ROUND 4
1. Miami Dolphins-Mike Hart, RB, Michigan
You don't know how healthy Ronnie Brown is going to be, good solid backup.
2. St Louis Rams-John David Booty, QB, USC
I'm up in there air as to what Booty can do in the NFL, he didn't have receivers at USC.
3. Atlanta Falcons-Joe Burnett, CB, UCF
Their secondary may intercept a lot, but they get torched a lot too.
4. Oakland Raiders-Dre Moore, DT, Maryland
Warren Sapp has retired, they need a defensive tackle to take his spot.
5. Kansas City Chiefs-Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson
No telling if they can keep Allen, but they do need capable backups.
6. New York Jets-Lavelle Hawkins, WR, Cal
Crochery and Coles are nice, but there needs to be a third option somewhere.
7. San Francisco 49ers-Jacky Claude, G, Florida State
You have the outside set, time to bulk up the interior of it.
8. Baltimore Ravens-Jonathan Goff, ILB, Vanderbilt
They have so many holes, they can only fill one at a time.
9. Cincinnati Bengals-Ben Moffitt, ILB, South Florida
They need to be thinking defense repeatedly in this draft, oh and don't draft convicts.
10. New Orleans Saints-Earl Bennett, WR, Vanderbilt
You have to give Brees some playmakers in order for him to make plays, BOOM!
11. Buffalo Bills-Dorien Bryant, WR, Purdue
I keep hearing from Buffalo they need a big play receiver, well here's a choice.
12. Denver Broncos-Cody Wallace, C, Texas A&M
An excellent choice as he has the raw talent that can be molded to their taste.
13. Carolina Panthers-Josh Morgan, WR, Virginia Tech
They continue to attempt to find that option other then Steve Smith.
14. Chicago Bears-James Davis, RB, Clemson
A running back who is already accustomed to playing second fiddle.
15. Detroit Lions-Chris Johnson, RB, East Carolina
Perhaps he can manage to do something Kevin Jones has yet to do, stay healthy.
16. Arizona Cardinals-Bruce Davis, OLB, UCLA
A very talented linebacker, someone who can be all over the field.
17. Minnesota Vikings-Jack Ikegwuonu, CB, Wisconsin
Should stay in school, least he's drafted by a team that will utilize him.
18. Houston Texans-Shannon Tevaga, G, UCLA
Well, they wanted a wall to be built in Texas.
19. Philadelphia Eagles-Heath Benedict, OT, Newberry
I love this kid, and should be a huge fan favorite in Philadelphia.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Mike McGlynn, OT, Pitts
They are still trying to find that second tackle to protect their quarterbacks.
21. Washington Redskins-Curtis Gatewood, OLB, Vanderbilt
They need to continue to build up a linebacking corps that doesn't know where Rocky will be.
22. Cleveland Browns-Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech
Johnson's size and speed are way too tempting to pass up at this stage.
23. Pittsburgh Steelers-Terrance Taylor, DT, Michigan
The Steelers don't draft for need all the time, they love staying loaded.
24. Tennessee Titans-Quentin Demps, S, UTEP
They play the Colts twice a year, they need all kinds of secondary help.
25. Seattle Seahawks-Kory Lichtensteiger, C, Bowling Green
Again we go back to their interior line where there is the constant sucking.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars-Dennis Dixon, WR, Oregon
This allows them versatility in what Dixon could do for this team.
27. New York Giants-Chris Ellis, DE, Virginia Tech
Yes, they are stacked, but Strahan is getting closer to retirement.
28. San Diego Chargers-J Leman, ILB, Illinois
Their defense has come on these last few weeks, but their linebackers need weapons.
29. Dallas Cowboys-Jason Jones, DE, Eastern Michigan
A special kind of player that can play defensive end or outside linebacker.
30. Indianapolis Colts-Beau Bell, ILB, UNLV
If they end up with Bell it will be a fucking crime.
31. Green Bay Packers-John Greco, OT, Toledo
One can never be too safe about the safety of the Farve.
32. New England Patriots-Owen Schmitt, FB, West Virginia
There may be no better fit for the Patriots in this draft then Schmitt.

2008 NFL Mock Draft Rounds 1-4 Jan 4th

Welcome back and happy new year everyone. The offseason has begun for some teams and the draft picture may start to become clearer and clearer over the next few weeks, especially the combine. We also will get to stop guessing over which juniors will declare (Erin Henderson, Jamaal Charles) and who will stay another year.

ROUND 1
1. Miami Dolphins-Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Bill Parcells is a defensive guy first and foremost. Keith Traylor was kicked off the team this year by Cam Cameron and he may come back, but that defensive tackle position definitely has some wear on the tires. Dorsey is the kind of playmaker Parcells loves.
2. St Louis Rams-Jake Long, OT, Michigan
Orlando Pace is likely to go the way of Ogden pretty soon and retire. It also doesn't help matters that Bulger and Gus were treated like human ping pong balls all year, they need something solid on that offensive line.
3. Atlanta Falcons-Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
Joey, Byron, and Redman. Those are the names of Falcons quarterbacks currently NOT in prison. They need some semblance of leadership and ability, something they are currently lacking. Oh, and someone who doesn't murder dogs for sport would also be advisable.
4. Kansas City Chiefs-Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
You're probably blinking in disbelief, let me explain what I see happening. Larry Johnson and the Chiefs have never gotten along. Deal him now for a second round pick or something and take McFadden, who very well may end up being a better running back anyways.
5. Oakland Raiders-Chris Long, DE, Virginia
Nostalgia, that is what many folks will say with this pick. The fact that he is probably my second maybe even first ranked player is just gravy for the Raiders. This definitely makes the Black Hole wild with excitement to have the son of Howie.
6. New York Jets-DeSean Jackson, WR, Cal
I know, not exactly what you're thinking but let me explain. They need a wide receiver, done. They have Leon Washington who is one of the top five returners in the NFL. Now imagine if you put both DeSean and Leon back there on kickoffs, do you always kick it short or out of bounds? This almost guarantees great field position every kickoff.
7. New England Patriots (via 49ers)-James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio St
If you let the Road Warrior fall to the Patriots and allow him to learn from some of those veterans, we'll never see the end to this alleged Patriots dynasty. Of course he's a perfect fit for that team and their personality, that's why I hate it that he may wind up there.
8. Baltimore Ravens-Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
After his performance against LSU and the hype machine began his production and play has dropped. Some folks no longer have Woodson in their top five quarterbacks list. This is likely to continue so I now have the Ravens taking Brian Brohm.
9. Cincinnati Bengals-Ryan Clady, OT, Boise St
I know common sense tells us that the Bengals will be going defense, defense, defense. They have however lost Steinbach and word has it they are going to lose one of their tackles in the offseason as well. Carson Palmer is their horse and they need to protect him.
10. New Orleans Saints-Dan Connor, ILB, Penn St
At each level of the defense the Saints need help. A key to any strong defense is a secure inside linebacker who can make plays all over the field. Dan Connor is one of those type of players that the Saints can rely on.
11. Buffalo Bills-Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas
I've thought for awhile now that Talib was the best corner in that nation, and after last night's performance people are starting to agree with me. This could also be Jenkins from Ohio St, either way the Bills need a corner here whoever that may be to compete with the Patriots.
12. Denver Broncos-Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
I've said it before so it shouldn't need repeating but just in case you weren't paying attention, the Broncos are in desperate need of a defensive line that can make plays. Sedrick Ellis may end up being the more productive defensive tackle in the NFL between Dorsey and himself.
13. Carolina Panthers-Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio St
There are no more first round quarterbacks available, and you could take an offensive tackle here, but getting double teams off of Julius Peppers (the face of their franchise) is a more pressing need. If folks disregard Gholston in favor of Peppers he will make them pay all day long.
14. Chicago Bears-Sam Baker, OT, USC
Like I said above, there are no more first round quarterbacks available and I doubt Louvie Smith will stretch and try to find one here. What he should do, and probably will, is work on protecting whoever his quarterback is, and Sam Baker is the best option at this point in the draft.
15. Detroit Lions-Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio St
They need a corner like I need a full head of hair and to lose a few pounds. Their secondary could call Detroit's SVU section they were abused so bad in the second half of the season. An offensive tackle isn't a stretch here either, I just believe this is their biggest need at this point in time.
16. Arizona Cardinals-Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina
A running back or offensive lineman may be the sexy choice for some out there for the Cardinals, but I'm going with Balmer. He's an atheltic defensive lineman and can take some pressure off some of their other players and allowing them to be the playmakers they are capable of.
17. Minnesota Vikings-Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC
The Vikings has a young defense that has a good amount of potential, but they need that playmaker on the defensive line like they have in Purple Jesus on the offense. Lawrence Jackson has all the tools and ability to be that kind of player, to be that pass rushing threat they desperately need.
18. Houston Texans-Kenny Phillips, S, Miami
The Texans will be praying the entire draft for Kenny Phillips to fall to them. They have their defensive line and linebacker playmakers, now they need their secondary playmaker and he comes in the form of Kenny Phillips. I do suspect someone may trade up to snag him though.
19. Philadelphia Eagles-Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
The biggest piece missing, at least to me, of the Eagles offense is that big playmaking wide receiver that they haven't had since TO was there. Even before TO this was a problem, as they have NEVER during Andy Reid's tenure had a huge playmaking wide receiver, this could solve that dilemma.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
This pick does two things for the Buccs, they get themselves a hell of a playmaker at the corner position, and you get a local kid that excites the fan base. I'm always in favor of getting local talent since the fans can get behind someone they've known for years over someone new, and they tend to get more invested in the team.
21. Washington Redskins-Quentin Groves, DE/OLB, Auburn
I don't believe they should draft a safety first, they have other needs and there is none of value here. Groves can play either defensive end or outside linebacker for the Redskins, though I think he'll end up at OLB because of his size, though if he bulks up he definitely can play defensive end.
22. Dallas Cowboys (via Browns)-Jeff Otah, OT, Pitt
You have found your quarterback of the future, he's young and he likes dating dumb blondes. Well, you can't get someone to protect him from dating the dumb blondes but you can get someone to protect his backside from Trent Cole and Andre Carter so that your millions aren't lost and you have to rely on Brad Johnson.
23. Seattle Seahawks-Fred Davis, TE, USC
Do you pay money for a first round running back, or do you get someone you need right now? I went with the right now philosophy and took the best tight end in this draft for the Seahawks. The West Coast offense MUST have a stellar tight end to succeed, notice anything missing in Seattle?
24. Pittsburgh Steelers-Marcus Griffin, S, Texas
Troy is quickly entering into a rare territory saved for Steve Young and Troy Aikman when it comes to his concussions. I don't know if we'll ever see him with an extra helmet on his helmet, but Tomlin is a secondary coach who knows that if he's out soon that defense could very well sick very quickly.
25. Tennessee Titans-Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
We've talked time and time again about how badly the Titans need some wide receivers as weapons for Vince Young to throw to. Well Sweed and him tore up the college ranks together, so this gives him something familiar as he continues to adjust to playing football in the NFL.
26. New York Giants-Keith Rivers, OLB, USC
The fact that Keith Rivers could very well slip all the way to 26 should be a crime in this country. He should blend in very well with that Giants defense who is really starting to come into its own and be recognized as one of the better defenses in the NFL. A good draft defensively and this may just become THE best defense in the league.
27. San Diego Chargers-Erin Henderson, OLB, Maryland
It's a bit scary to think of what the Chargers would do, scheme wise, having both Merriman and Henderson on their Linebacking corps. Would they become known as the Mutant Ninja Turtles or something? I just think this selection enables the Chargers to do so many things defensively.
28. Jacksonville Jaguars-James Hardy, WR, Indiana
Watch a highlight reel of James Hardy this year and you may begin to understand the feeling Jacksonville fans will have if the Jaguars land Hardy this late in the first round. This kid can seemingly catch anything in his direction and rarely drops a ball, things definitely needed by the Jaguars offense.
29. Green Bay Packers-Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois
Ryan Grant looks like a good solid player, but is it for real or just a one year fluke? I don't think the Packers can allow themselves the luxury of being wrong and take Mendenhall. His style of running is a bit opposite and more prone to some huge plays, but he's tougher then Reggie Bush so no worries about just being flashy.
30. Dallas Cowboys-Early Doucet, WR, LSU
The Cowboys need some reliable receivers opposite TO who always garners plenty of attention from the defense. Doucet may not be a TO or Moss, but he can be a Reggie Wayne or Wes Welker, someone reliable to throw to and has the ability to make some extra yards from time to time.
31. San Francisco 49ers (via Colts)-Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan
Here is your big time wide receiver Shawn Hill. Is there any question that Shawn Hill is now the Niners quarterback? Will there be a a situation much like there was this year in Cleveland between Hill and Alex Smith? Either way, they need someone to throw to and Mario gives you that big playmaking ability you've missed since TO.

A strong corner that is beginning to gain a lot of recognition in circles.
2. St Louis Rams-Reggie Smith, CB, Oklahoma
Can probably play corner or safety, the Rams need both.
3. Atlanta Falcons-Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt
No reason to draft a quarterback if you can't protect him.
4. Kansas City Chiefs-Kennan Burton, WR, Kentucky
An underrated wide receiver in this draft, great compliment to Bowe.
5. Oakland Raiders-Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss
A very solid lineman, something the Raiders desperately need, should stay in school though.
6. New York Jets-Vince Hall, ILB, Virginia Tech
Helps fill that inside and gives the Jets a solid football player.
7. San Francisco 49ers-Alex Mack, C, Cal
They began securing the outside of the line, now time for the middle.
8. Baltimore Ravens-Tracy Porter, CB, Indiana
Rolle's epilepsy brought into question whether he will always be ready to go.
9. Cincinnati Bengals-Marcus Harrison, DT, Arkansas
To start building a solid defense you have to start building in the middle.
10. New Orleans Saints-Travis Beckum, TE, Wisconsin
Ask Drew Brees if he misses having a tight end like Antonio Gates.
11. Buffalo Bills-Ali Highsmith, OLB, LSU
A nice compliment to Poz, has the right demeanor for that Bills team.
12. Denver Broncos-Robert Felton, G, Arkansas
Their offense struggled this year since their o-line wasn't what it used to be.
13. Carolina Panthers-Joe Flacco, QB, Delaware
You may still have Delhomme but there needs to be something young learning behind him.
14. Chicago Bears-Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
They go against the grain here and take Woodson, his personality is perfect for the windy city.
15. Detroit Lions-Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
It's hard to throw or run the ball when your o-line doesn't really block anyone.
16. Arizona Cardinals-Jonathon Stewart, RB, Oregon
They wait a round and still get one of the top three running backs.
17. Minnesota Vikings-Jamie Silva, S, Boston College
Kid is a hard nosed player, the kind the fans in Minneapolis absolutely love.

They let Grady Jackson go, there needs to be someone to take his place.
19. Philadelphia Eagles-Kevin Ellison, S, USC
The Eagles finally find a person for that whole next to Dawkins, fans finally rejoice.

Derrick Brooks isn't getting much younger, Hayes could do wonders in Tampa.

I know defense should be first, but we need a replacement for Lewis and he's too good to pass up at this point in the draft.

Another team who waited to take a running back and having it work out in their favor.

They're gonna lose Faneca, so naturally someone is needed to replace him.

I'll be shocked if they're able to actually keep Haynesworth this year.

Their secondary is coming along, Godfrey could make it feared.

They'll need someone to protect their QB and make holes for Ronnie Brown.

A really athletic outside backer to help that defense get even better.

It's almost a scary thought thinking about Bigby and Steltz back there together.

They'll let Julius Jones go via free agency, this offense though needs two backs.
31. Indianapolis Colts-Phil Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma
Their offensive line was battered pretty bad this year, imagine him opposite Ugoh.
32. New England Patriots-DeJuan Tribble, CB, Boston College
They always replenish their corners, and take Boston College kids when possible.

1. Miami Dolphins-Dustin Keller, TE, Purdue
Parcells loves having a talented tight end, look at Bavaro and Whitten.
2. St Louis Rams-Chris Ellis, DE, Virginia Tech
Ellis can come in and hopefully up their pass rush.
3. Atlanta Falcons-Michael Hamlin, S, Clemson
The Falcons secondary talks a great game, and make interceptions, but also a lot of touchdowns.
4. Kansas City Chiefs-Steve Justice, C Wake Forest
Their offensive line needs a complete make over, I still think Justice is the number one center.
5. New England Patriots (via Raiders)-Calais Campbell, DE, Miami
The Patriots love players who can play multiple things, Campbell's athleticism allows him to do just that.
6. New York Jets-Dre Moore, DT, Maryland
A Terrapin to keep blockers off of a Hokie.
7. San Francisco 49ers-Josh Barrett, S, Arizona St
Their defense is coming along, but they need that dominate safety back there.
8. Buffalo Bills (via Ravens)-John Carlson, TE, Notre Dame
It gives Edwards/Losman a release valve when Reed and the others are covered.

They rebuilding of the defense continues, a strong inside backer behind the new defensive tackle.
10. New Orleans Saints-Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee State
A bit of a steal here, their free agents this year were the worst pick ups in the league.
11. Buffalo Bills-Chad Rinehart, G, Northern Iowa
Someone has to get in the trenches and open holes for Marshawn Lynch.
12. Minnesota Vikings (via Broncos)-Barry Richardson, OT, Clemson
Tavaris Jackson needs more protection and Peterson needs holes to run through.
13. Carolina Panthers-DJ Hall, WR, Alabama
The Panthers continue to attempt to find that winning receiver combination.

I can't remember a season where the Bears' safeties didn't get injured.

The Lions have plenty of wide receivers, but no real tight end.

Perhaps Nicks can protect that quarterback like some others haven't.

Some have him rated the number one guard in the draft, him with Hutchinson ain't to shabby.

They need to secure their inside, too much pressure emanated from there this season.

Westbrook needs breathers, and has the routine of getting injured on occasion.

Garcia isn't the long term answer and Gradkowski is a backup, Gruden takes a chance.
21. Washington Redskins-Quintin Demps, S, UTEP
Taking one so late he isn't expected to be the next Sean Taylor.
22. Cleveland Browns-Darrell Robertson, DE, Georgia Tech
Finally a defensive end who can make a sack and tackle in the backfield.
23. Seattle Seahawks-Drew Radovich, G, USC
There's been a hole here since Steve Hutchinson left for Minnesota.
24. Pittsburgh Steelers-Lavelle Hawkins, WR, Cal
They're losing Washington likely in the offseason, here's your new number three.

Who knows is Pacman will still be as good when he comes back from suspension.

This may be the weakest link on the Giants defense.

Cedric Benson isn't working, and Peterson isn't a starter, late enough to take a chance.

They're getting long in the tooth in the safety region, great competitor.

One can never have enough solid tackles to protect Brett Farve.

I feel this defense has missed something since Dat Ngyuen retired.

A speedy inside backer who should wreck havoc for Tony Dungy.

A spunky player who should fit in and be easily molded by the team's veterans.

You don't know how healthy Ronnie Brown is going to be, good solid backup.
2. St Louis Rams-Phillip Wheeler, ILB, Georgia Tech
A good speedy inside backer whose best games will be at home indoors.
3. Atlanta Falcons-Roy Schuening, G, Oregon State
The continuation of building an offense line that can help the offense.
4. Kansas City Chiefs-Jack Ikegwuonu, CB, Wisconsin
Both of their corners are over thirty years old, they need a pupil.
5. Oakland Raiders-Terrance Taylor, DT, Michigan
Sapp has announced his retirement, so there's an opening at defensive tackle.
6. New York Jets-Dantrelle Savage, RB, Oklahoma State
Thomas Jones doesn't seem able to handle the entire load of the running game.
7. San Francisco 49ers-Jacky Claude, G, Florida State
You now have at least one side of the offensive line solid, perhaps some production then?
8. Baltimore Ravens-Kirk Barton, OT, Ohio State
Ogden will likely retire, if not next year, continue to build that offensive line.

Perhaps the presence of a solid young man will turn some of their boys away from crime.

A playmaker in the secondary for a secondary who should all be fired.

They are trying to find a playmaker of sorts at the receiver position.

An excellent choice as he has the raw talent that can be molded to their taste.

Deangelo Williams and DeShawn Foster don't seem to be working right now.

They very well may lose Lance Briggs this offseason.

Perhaps he can jump start a pass rush that only appeared against Denver.

Rolle has become a playmaker, but there is still an open spot opposite.

It wasn't just a young quarterback who kept them out of the playoffs.

Well, they wanted a wall to be built in Texas.

I believe the most underrated tackle in the draft because of teammate Otah.

I love this kid, he would be their new Mike Alstott.
21. New York Jets (via Redskins)-Earl Bennett, WR, Vanderbilt
They took DeSean, but Bennett gives them the more reliable receiver Clemens needs.
22. Cleveland Browns-Andre Fluellen, DT, Florida State
They wait awhile to take a defensive tackle, and he turns out to be one who could be really special.
23. Seattle Seahawks-Simeon Castille, S, Alabama
They do seem to go through secondary players like plastic cups don't they.
24. Pittsburgh Steelers-John Greco, OT, Toledo
They very well may lose one of their starting offensive tackles as well.
25. Tennessee Titans-Josh Morgan, WR, Virginia Tech
Of course they need more wide receivers, the ones they have now aren't working.
26. New York Giants-Donnie Avery, WR, Houston
I don't think it's necessary, they have Steve Smith, but when have they done things that made sense.
27. San Diego Chargers-DeMario Pressley, DT, North Carolina State
They need something in the middle of the defense, though I'm not sold on Pressley.
28. Jacksonville Jaguars-Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon
It's late enough in the draft to take a chance on someone, I can't imagine a better player to take a chance on.
29. Green Bay Packers-Jordan Grimes, G, Purdue
It may be the mantra of Packerland this offseason, we must protect Farve.
30. Dallas Cowboys-Dennis Keyes, S, UCLA
This isn't the year for the Cowboys to work on their safety issue.
31. Indianapolis Colts-Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
A good, solid, reliable player ya know the kind the Colts like on defense.
32. New England Patriots-Adarius Bowman, WR, Oklahoma State
They'll lose one or two receivers in the offseason, Bowman is a reliable one to replace them.

A New Manager At The Depot

So we all have heard by now about Bobby Petrino out of no where leaving the Atlanta Falcons and taking the head coaching job of the Razorbacks of Arkansas. Now everyone has their opinion on the matter, myself I can understand why the man did it. He's a college coach and according to his Falcons he was treating them like college kids. That and he no longer had Michael Vick, which I'm sure was a big reason for him going to Atlanta in the first place. That's not the point of this article, the point is who should the Falcons replace him with, and I've come up with eight possible candidates.

Now Arthur Blank has stated that they want an offensive minded coach, and that's cool, the majority on this list are exactly that. What also went into consideration was race, cause whether we want to admit it or not, Atlanta is a town that sees things very much in black and white. This team resembles the town in a lot of ways and I thought putting a coach that fit into that type of situation would be their best bet in shaping this team.

Jim Caldwell, Indianapolis Colts Assistant Head Coach/Quarterbacks
He has turned quarterbacks everywhere he has gone into superstars, and that is the one position that has plagued the Falcons this year. He's been around long enough to gain respect from players from his accomplishments and has no doubt learned how to be an excellent head coach from Tony Dungy. If I was the Falcons he'd be at the very top of my list.

Sherman Smith, Tennessee Titans Assistant Head Coach/Running Backs
Sherman Smith is a former player, and has been with the Titans for 13 years, so he is very unlikely to jump up and move, which may be their biggest fear at this point. He has overseen a traditionally sound running game under his watch in Tennessee, helping Eddie George not become a Heisman bust. This would be an interesting choice, since he doesn't get the press of a Jim Caldwell.

Mike Martz, Detroit Lions Offensive Coordinator
If they are seriously looking for an offensive minded coach, who better then Mike Martz? We know he's going to create some crazy ass offense, and this puts him back into a dome. Whether or not he would gel with this team would be up in the air, but it definitely gives them that offensive mind they say they desire.

Brian Stewart, Dallas Cowboys Defensive Coordinator
This is an interesting idea, as he hasn't been an NFL coach very long, but he does have a great track record with the Cowboys this season. His youth also may help him connect with his team better then some of the older coaches, and Arthur Blank could hope for a Tomlin type situation where the dude just does a phenomenal job, no matter what his age.

Leslie Frazier, Minnesota Vikings Defensive Coordiantor
Again, not an offensive minded guy, but you see how well his defense is playing this year and it could be argued that he's doing a better job then Mike Tomlin did in the exact same position last year. He's also a Super Bowl winning player, who played for one of the best defenses in history, so he would (or should) get that respect from the players.

Winston Moss, Green Bay Packers Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers
If you've seen the play of the Packers linebackers this year, you know how good of a coach Winston Moss has been. He's also a young coach who has been put on that "fast track" to being a head coach in the NFL. Again he's not the offensive mind the Falcons want, but he could hire that and turn that defense into something special. He also coached the Saints, so he knows the NFC South very well already.

Russ Grimm, Arizona Cardinals Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line
He will be mentioned in every single vacancy this season, mark my words. Now, will he allow himself to be separated from Ken Wisenhunt, I'm not sure, but he will be one of the most sought after coaches out there. Of course Atlanta has to take a look at him when you look at his track record, though I don't know if he will actually fit in in Atlanta.

Mike Singletary, San Francisco 49ers Assistant Head Coach/Defense
Along with Russ Grimm, he will be mentioned in every vacancy known to man this year. He's already turned down the job at his alma mater at Baylor University, which tells me he wants to coach in the NFL and not college, which is a plus for the Falcons. He will get respect from every player, or he will take it. I'm selfish, I want him to leave San Fran and come be the Browns assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, but the Falcons should pursue him as well.
