An Interesting Stat

An NFL.com piece was talking about the importance of average yard per catch. Last year Peyton Manning was the only starting QB in the NFL who averaged over 7 yards per catch and he won the Super Bowl. This year Tom Brady leads everyone with over 9 yards per catch, followed by Tony Romo then Derek Anderson.

Let us look at Derek Anderson and see how true this importance is. He has played in six games this year, started five. Here are his average yards per catch and who they were against and how they faired in that game.

Steelers 6.6 Lost
Bengals 9.9 Won
Raiders 6.7 Lost
Ravens 11.3 Won
Patriots 6.7 Lost
Dolphins 9.8 Won

So it appears that if you throw and complete on average 7 yards or more, you will win the game. Let us look at Tony Romo to see if that theory holds up.

Giants 14.4 Won
Dolphins 6.4 Won
Bears 9.4 Won
Rams 10.3 Won
Bills 6.2 Won
Patriots 6.9 Lost
Vikings 7.1 Won

Only in the Miami win did the Dolphins have a better average yard for catch then the Cowboys. So, you don't HAVE to have more then seven yards, but you better stop that run if you don't have more then the other team. That or you better have a defense that can squash the other team. Of course, it's almost a no brainer when it comes to something like this, a no duh moment but interesting none the less.

Browns QB

This sums up our return. Hopefully one of the three remaining will help us vanquish our most hated foe this Sunday.
