JLA Ahoy

According to IESB dot Net we have some more details on the Justice League movie. Now don't click the link if you want any spoilers. Actually you should probably not read this article if you want to know any spoilers. I will try not to let too much slip, I do have to talk about a few points the article brings up.

Some may wonder why they are trying for such a big cast JLA movie and I can only assume it's because of what Marvel plans on doing with the Avengers/Ultimates movie. Unlike DC, Marvel has their actors signed to do the movie. So you'll have at the very least Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L Jackson and Edward Norton in the movie as Iron Man, Hulk and Nick Fury respectively.

It hurts DC that Routh and Bale don't want to do the JLA movie. I say pay them whatever price they want to play the roles. I understand if Bale doesn't want to because of a different direction then his current franchise. Routh they probably just don't have faith in to play the big lead. There was talk of having the Smallville cast, and I believe this is probably their best choice.

You already have characters set for the movie then and then could add big names into it. You have Superman, Lex Luthor, Green Arrow, Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Martian Manhunter, Supergirl, Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane. So basically they would need a Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and whatever side characters you want. Now you can eliminate Green Arrow since they're giving him his own movie, same goes for Aquaman since his character is eh. You need to keep the Smallville storyline though, since their Lex works better for their storyline then the Superman movie storyline.

Right now they have thrown out a good number of names for roles, the biggest is the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio wants to play Aquaman. I don't know I'm sold on that, he seems to small, but it does give you star power. So now you need a Maxwell Lord, Talia Al Ghul, Darkseid, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, Batman and Wonder Woman. The following is basically how I would cast this movie

Wonder Woman-Megan Fox
Green Lantern-Jamie Foxx
Flash-Kyle Gallner
Martian Manhunter-Vladimir Kulich
Aquaman-Leonardo DiCaprio
Darkseid-Ciaran Hinds
Maxwell Lord-Mel Gibson
Talia Al Ghul-Monica Bellucci
Lex Luthor-Michael Rosenbaum
Brainiac-James Masters
Lois Lane-Erica Durance
Doomsday-Dominic Purcell

Now then, let me explain my thinking. It is a young cast, but it's supposed to be. I chose David Boreanez as Batman as he has the size and can definitely play the moody as well as the Bruce Wayne portion. That led me to adding Brainiac to the cast so David and James can have a fight, have Brainiac the creator of the OMACs. Megan Fox has that look that isn't quite any race which would work for Dianna. They want big names so I give you Mel, Leonardo and Jamie Foxx. I also added Doomsday just so we could finally have the Superman vs Doomsday fight.

I do like the idea of the story, I would just add the Brainiac portion and have Manhunter be himself, not Maxwell Lord. The idea would be the final big battle (see last forty-five minutes of movie) would be like this.
Batman vs Brainiac
Aquaman and his army versus White Martians
Manhunter vs Lord
Superman and Wonder Woman vs Darkseid and Doomsday
Lantern and Flash vs Darkseid's army

You could also throw in the entire Superman dies thing, you already have built up that Chloe can bring back the dead. Then Superman comes back, throws Doomsday to the stars and then the JLA stand off against Darkseid right before he kills Wonder Woman, they fight and then he escapes through teleport, day saved.
