So, I have to admit. The more I think about the Russian invasion of Georgia, the more I'm indifferent towards the whole thing.
I realize this is a whole "act of aggression" and "Putin trying to reunite the Motherland" and all, but the level of international hostility towards this action really has me a little surprised.
Case in point, isn't this essentially just another superpower enacting the "Bush Doctrine" of preemptive attack on a sovereign nation that goes against their national interests? Shouldn't we be encouraging this type of action, given our propensity towards solving problems via regime change (whether it be military or subtle "Mujaheddin" type actions)?

Yea, that doesn't sound all that promising to me as far as any "troop withdrawal", unless you redefine the Georgian-Russian border to annex current gains by Russian troops, THEN they'd be withdrawn technically right?

This is completely different from Bush Doctrine, this is a open slap to the face to the West. Bush lied to congress to goto war. Russia said "to hell with that mess" and flat out invaded a country that was pretty much a 3rd world nation 3 years ago. This is Russia vs. Afganistan part duex.
And I do find humor knowing that Sochi, Russia hosts the Winter games in 2014. Perhaps another US boycott???
I dunno, I guess I just don't buy the argument that Russia has to follow the exact same process as we did in order for it to be defined as essentially the same preemptive type of action.
Is it morally less reprehensible to lie your way into a foreign conflict, or just say screw it and attack?
I just don't see much difference between the two.
Being a bully and lying to become a bully are two completely different tactics.
We were a bully a long time before we started lying to invade countries.
Well, when we didnt lie we werent exactly "the invaders". We funded wars and provided aides to the "invaders", which were then, militants.
Russia: America, don't do that, we'll get pissed. Seriously. No, I'm not kidding. BOOM!
