MLB Restructure Part 2

We have seen SayHey's entry into the Restructuring of Major League Baseball and now I shall give you my thoughts on the matter.

I agree we could use another two teams and push the conferences into four consisting of East, North, Central and West. I also have a total of four teams moving cities along with the creation of two new teams. Now I went against the grain and chose the cities for expansion that differed from SH's. I went with Calgary and Memphis, two cities that love their sports and could easily support those franchises. They also benefit from not having any baseball teams anywhere remotely close to them.

I have four teams relocating and I guarentee two of them are going to shock you. First let us get to the obvious teams, the Marlins and the Rays. SayHey was right, Florida doesn't want baseball, it doesn't deserve baseball. MLB needs to realize this and stop trying so hard to get Florida baseball to succeed. I moved the Marlins to Omaha, Nebraska and Tampa Bay I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. The other major move involved restoring a team to their rightful location, namely I am moving the Dodgers BACK to Brooklyn. With that I am moving the Mets to San Antonio as it has the population to support a team.

So here is how my league now appears

AL East
New York Yankees
Boston Red Sox
Baltimore Orioles
Charlotte Hounds

AL North
Toronto Blue Jays
Chicago White Sox
Detroit Tigers
Cleveland Indians

AL Central
Minnesota Twins
Texas Rangers
Kansas City Royals
Memphis Crocketts

AL West
Oakland A's
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of West Hollywood and Oxnard
Seattle Mariners
Calgary Mustangs

NL East
Brooklyn Dodgers
Philadelphia Phillies
Washington Nationals
Atlanta Braves

NL North
Pittsburgh Pirates
Cincinnati Reds
Chicago Cubs
Milwaukee Brewers

NL Central
ST Louis Cardinals
Omaha Godfathers
Houston Astros
Colorado Rockies

NL West
San Francisco Giants
San Antonio Horns
Arizona Diamondbacks
San Diego Padres

I'll explain the mascots as well. Charlotte got the Hounds since the Hound is the North Carolina state animal, Omaha got the Godfathers since it is the birthplace of Brando, San Antonio got the Horns no explanation needed, Memphis got the Crocketts because of Davy, and Calgary is an easy choice for the Mustangs.

There is another trick, there would be no more wild card teams. Whoever wins their respective group goes to the playoffs. If you win a hundred but another team in your group wins 102, tough titty, play better baseball San Francisco.

Restructuring of MLB

Shane really got me thinking about the whole restructuring thing, therefor I decided to propose on the the MLB. The last time we had a shakeup was about 12 years ago, which was absolutely necessary. I personally believe that was due to the Giants 100 win season in 95. Yes, the year we won 100 games and missed the playoffs. But you know sports fans, we do need another one. If the 2007 season taught us anything, its that baseball is back and baseball is inches away from regaining its national glory as "Americas past time". Here is what we need to do first:

We need 2 expansion teams and 4 teams to move: 2 cities that should have a team are no doubtingly San Antonio and New Orleans. SA is a fastly growing city with the means and population to sustain a franchise. New Orleans is questionable since people are moving out at a rapid rate. But they love their sports, they attend just about every event. I may get some heat for this one but hey, its along time coming.

Relocated teams:
The Portland Marlins- Uhm in Florida they had an attendance of 500 people at one point. This city does not deserve a franchise. They should move to Portland. Shane nailed it. This city is on the rise, they love their sports, and its only right that they get a team. Unless you want to call them the Trout or Seabass, Marlins may stick.

Omaha Rays- Simply said, Florida deserves no baseball at all. They are a football state and nothing more. MLB needs to plug a hole in the mid-west and why not send them to the college baseball Mecca. Omaha, Nebraska. This town bleeds Cornhuskers and baseball. Certainly this city could benefit with a sports franchise. That or Oklahoma City. Either way, baseball could dominate the Midwest if given a chance.

San Jose A's- Well, they are moving anyway but why not mention em. This move only helps the bay area cheer for the Giants more and more, BUT those who are not from Cali dont know that Freemont is an up and coming city. San Jose is rather close and they are the hub for that little metro rail called BART. This move can only help the A's. San Jose being so close, I would see them adopting that city name.

Hampton Roads Orioles- This is going to REALLY piss off Dews but look at this franchise. They are down right awful and have been for 10 years. Their fans are quickly jumping on the Nats train and there are more Redsox and Yankees fans in Baltimore than O's fans. Ever been to Camden Yards?? I cant even find an O's jersey anywhere, and if I do its a shredded up Moose jersey. Come on, get over it!! This team has history, so why not move them to a historical town. YORKTOWN, VA!!! or better yet, Norfolk!!! They need a team!!! they deserve a team!! Ever been there?? Its beautiful, well populated, and desperate for a team. Their AAA stadium sells out every game and their park is down right amazing. Think about it.

So back to re-alignment: I like the 4 division method. It works in football and basketball, why not baseball. I really like the idea of having a team earn a bye week.

AL East
New York Yankees
Boston Redsox
Toronto Bluejays
Philadelphia Phillie's

AL Central
Chicago Whitesox
Detroit Tigers
Minnesota Twins
Cleveland Indians

AL South
New Orleans Jazz (bringing it back old school)
KC Royals
Omaha Rays
Milwaukee Brewers

AL West
San Jose A's
Seattle Mariners
LA Angels
Texas Rangers

NL East
NY Mets
Washington Nationals
Hampton Roads O's
Atlanta Braves

NL Central
Pittsburgh Pirates
Chicago Cubs
Cincinnati Reds
St Louis Cardinals

NL South
Colorado Rockies
Houston Astros
Arizona Diamondbacks
The San Antonio Alamo (singular is kinda cool, works for Stanford)

NL West
SF Giants
LA Dodgers
SD Padres
Portland Marlins

In my defense for this madness, it is Friday and im bored.

Restructuring The NFL

That's right suckos, my restructuring of the NFL involves the creation of four new NFL teams to give the league a nice 36 teams. You're asking yourself, can the NFL handle it which I tell you, you bet your sweet ass. The key is to get put the teams in cities that are clamoring for football.

Los Angeles is a no brainer, it's the second biggest media market in the country and has no team. The colors are Red and Blue, reppin USC and UCLA, and I went with the Demons since they already have Angels.

Oregon is a great football state, watch an Oregon game if you don't believe me. They could support an NFL franchise and don't take away from any nearby teams. I went with the Pioneers, which goes with the Trailblazers idea. Green and Black reppin Oregon and Oregon State respectively.

San Antonio is one of those no brainers, especially since Texas is a die hard football state, and can easily handle another football team. If Florida can handle three, Texas can handle three with their eyes closed. I went with Soldiers cause of the Alamo, colors are Red and Yellow.

Finally you have the Las Vegas Bandits. I know everyone is afraid to put a team in Las Vegas cause of all the gambling, but the NFL can take the plunge and have enough people surround the team to make sure they behave themselves in sin city. The colors would be silver and gold, the color of money.

I also went back to the three division set up, as I always liked that system better. I would also up the playoff teams to 8, so no team gets a bye week. It's still division winners and then the five best teams remaining. There was also a switch, I moved Cincinnati to the NFC and Arizona to the AFC. I think you should have an equal number of AFC and NFC teams in a state if possible.

Now then, I like my previous idea of giving teams location and traditional rival teams that they have to play every year. Some teams have those games built into it, others may need to be created, especially for the new teams. In the following list I will give the teams and who those rivals are if they are not already in their division. They will have one "rival" in their conference who isn't in their division and one in the opposite conference. For example, the Browns would have Baltimore (AFC East) and Cincinnati (NFC Central) as their rivals. Dallas would have Washington (NFC East) and Houston (AFC Central) as their's. The remainder of the schedule (an 18 week season) would consist of five teams of similar record the year before, 3 from their own conference and 2 from the other.

AFC East
New England-Indianapolis and Chicago
New York-Pittsburgh and New York
Miami-Las Vegas and Tampa Bay
Buffalo-Portland and Detroit
Baltimore-Cleveland and Washington
Jacksonville-San Diego and Carolina
AFC Central
Pittsburgh-New York and Philadelphia
Cleveland-Baltimore and Cincinnati
Tennessee-Denver and Atlanta
Houston-Arizona and Dallas
Kansas City-Oakland and St Louis
Indianapolis-New England and Minnesota
AFC West
Oakland-Kansas City and San Francisco
San Diego-Jacksonville and Los Angeles
Arizona-Houston and Green Bay
Denver-Tennessee and New Orleans
Portland-Buffalo and Seattle
Las Vegas-Miami and San Antonio

NFC East
New York-Cincinnati and New York
Washington-Dallas and Baltimore
Philadelphia-Detroit and Pittsburgh
Atlanta-New Orleans and Tennessee
Tampa Bay-Los Angeles and Miami
Carolina-Chicago and Jacksonville
NFC Central
Cincinnati-New York and Cleveland
Chicago-Carolina and New England
Detroit-Philadelphia and Buffalo
Green Bay-Seattle and Arizona
Minnesota-San Antonio and Indianapolis
St Louis-San Francisco and Kansas City
NFC West
New Orleans-Atlanta and Denver
San Francisco-St Louis and Oakland
Seattle-Green Bay and Portland
Dallas-Washington and Houston
Los Angeles-Tampa Bay and San Diego
San Antonio-Minnesota and Las Vegas

There you have it, thoughts?
