Things are getting ugly for the election, as well as the party's loyal followers:

According to cops, Ortiz, 28, stabbed Sean Shurelds last Thursday night in the kitchen of an Upper Providence Township home. According to a criminal complaint, a copy of which you'll find here, the 41-year-old Shurelds, an Obama supporter, told Ortiz that the Illinois senator was "trashing" Clinton (apparently in regard to recent primary and caucus results). Ortiz, a Clinton supporter, replied that "Obama was not a realist." While not exactly fighting words, the verbal political tiff led to some mutual choking and punching. And, allegedly, a stabbing in the abdomen.

Hey, at least they're getting into this election... Haven't seen this kind of "Election Fever" in a while!

Huckabee is quoted as saying the McCain story is "best thing that could happen" for McCain as a candidate.

He's no fool though, the Huckster is totally right on this. By finally running this story, the New York Times has given people like Rush Limbaugh an easy out on their stance against McCain for being "too liberal", since its a paper like the New York Times running it (aka Liberal War Machine to the Right Wing).

Not like it wasn't going to happen anyway, but this speeds up McCain's nomination and the Hucksters dropping out I'm guessing.

Had to put another spin on this whole V-Day crap being one of the few single members of this blog and all... Just means I got to save some money this year (Short term anyway, that will be spent at a bar very soon).

As with most the solutions to our problem, the damaged spy satellite that is supposed to land in some random place at some random time coming up will instead be blowed the &*(@ up.

U.S. officials said Thursday that the option preferred by the Bush
administration will be to fire a missile from a U.S. Navy cruiser, and shoot
down the satellite before it enters Earth's atmosphere.

Not that this is necessarily a bad idea mind you, I just think its funny given the administrations solutions for most other problems.

Dews Monday recovery

Another strange weekend in the books and another long week started. It never ceases to amaze me just how short weekends feel on sunday nights (after catching Aqua Teen of course) knowing that work is only a few hours away...

Oh well, on to the news of the day.
Leading off, Venezuela has us by the cajones yet again for something one of our multi-national corporate buddies Exxon is doing in retaliation for the nationalizing of a certain oil field.

"If you end up freezing (Venezuelan assets) and it harms us, we're going to
harm you," Chavez said during his weekly radio and television program, "Hello,
President." "Do you know how? We aren't going to send oil to the United States.
Take note, Mr. Bush, Mr. Danger."

Quite honestly, it is refreshing for a rebel like Chavez to stick it to corporate America in the worst possible way. Not that I or anyone else is going to enjoy the repercussions of oil prices rising again, but if you draw a line in the sand, you have to back that up.

In Primary news, it is looking more and more like Clinton's candidacy is having issues with not only money, but with the the supposed "Obama surge" that even I had been discounting over super tuesday (Sorry, the numbers just didn't support it I thought).

Clinton took another PR hit with this latest news of dismissing her Campaign Leader:

Mrs. Clinton, meanwhile, replaced Patti Solis Doyle, who led her campaign
since it began last year and whom she regarded almost as an adopted daughter. In
her place, she named another longtime aide, Maggie Williams.

Regardless of the realities of whether this person was doing a good job, this kind of illustrates a desperate and pretty sad push by the Clinton campaign to get this ship righted. Given that she has referred to this now fired individual as an "adopted daughter", you'd think she would perhaps assign someone to her duties, but keep the news of her firing from the press... To me this just smacks of desperation, so I can imagine it may to others that only hear that much of the story as well.

In other Primary news, Governor Huckabee continues on as he seemingly is still quite strong with the party base and the more conservative portions of his party.

"The Democrats haven't settled their nominee either, so for us to suddenly
act like we have to all step aside and have a coronation instead of an election,
that's the antithesis of everything Republicans are supposed to believe," he
said on "Meet the Press" on NBC. "We believe competition breeds excellence and
the lack of it breeds mediocrity."

With victories in Kansas and Louisiana, it appears Huckabee really doesn't have a good reason to go anywhere anytime soon, so it really does make sense for him to hang on and hope for a McCain collapse (or perhaps a news story containing details about a votes for sexual favors scandal?).

I really think Huckabee is still in this thing. Its a long shot obviously, but the conservatives in his party just cannot stomach McCain and as long as that is a festering issue with the party base, I can't write off the Huckster.

Should be an interesting finish though, still looking forward to seeing how this ends...

The Romney Saga...

Mitt Romney has announced today that he has decided to suspend his campaign indefinitely...

Huge news for Mike Huckabee obviously, as the Conservatives finally have someone to rally around, but not exactly great news for McCain at the moment.

Speaking of McCain...

Interesting rumors floating around on the Hill today though surrounding this sudden pull-out.

Rumor has it that there is an article out there detailing McCain's relationship with a lobbyist over the past few years that included a possible sexual favor tradeoff for political "in" if you will...

However, no word as to whether this article will ever be printed, but this could be a tactical play by Romney to wait it out, see if this article goes live, then swoop back in if a McCain pull-out seems likely...

Obviously if Senator McCain has been trading political votes for sexual favors, his candidacy is pretty much dead in the water, so this article is more then sensitive to his campaign. That being said, I think it would be an injustice for it not to be published should this story be true.

Definitely a story worth following and will be updated as more info becomes available...

Breaking News:

Governor Mike Huckabee is apparently still very much alive as a spoiler at the very least in this election, as he has taken West Virginia in quite the upset!

Huckabee bested Mitt Romney, who entered the Mountain State event with the largest bloc of pledged convention-goers. Both men and Ron Paul made in-person appeals to the more than 1,100 convention delegates attending Tuesday's convention.
But the former Arkansas governor beat his Massachusetts counterpart after delegates for John McCain defected to his side

Things still looking pretty interesting for the field, as I can't imagine anyone predicted this to happen.

Dews Wednesday round-down

Of course the two big stories of yesterday continue to linger.

Between Heath Ledger's death, and Tom Brady's gimpy ankle, the women of the world have been on the edge of their seat for the past 24 hours I'm sure. At least you all will have Project Runway to watch this evening, with hopefully Victoria getting kicked off... But I digress...

(And yes Dewey, I watch Project Runway, and yes I am also ok with my sexuality...)

Leading off we have the rapidly declining chances of Governor Huckabee of Arkansas after a poor showing in South Carolina. A significant portion of his staff is apparently forgoing pay for the time being until the money "Hopefully" starts rolling back in:

The former Arkansas governor promised to remain in the race through next
Tuesday's Florida primary, telling about 50 people, mostly University of Florida
fraternity members: "We are taking a look at everything daily. But we will be
here every day in Florida until next week."

Quite honestly, I think the writing is on the wall for Huckabee's campaign at this point. He captured lightning in a bottle with an impressive showing in Iowa and then an enormous push nationally, but I think the establishment is starting to circle the wagons around McCain. It's pretty much a certainty that Fred Thompson, aka "The Conservative's candidate" will undoubtably endorse McCain shortly to possibly be the VP on the ticket...

The crap just keeps getting piled on between the two "Candidates" (according to national media that is). As we've made pretty clear on this site, we've had just about as much as we can take of this behavior, but apparently the American people have not made that leap yet.

The twist (and wild card) in this situation is good ole Bubba, who seems to be helpful, but then horrendous to his wife's campaign.

"I know you think it's crazy, but I kind of like to see Barack and Hillary

In the Republican race to "see who the strongest is in foreign policy", which unfortunately equates to talking shit about foreign countries (I blame the voters, not the candidates for liking this, but whatever), Gov. Mike Huckabee has found time during the most recent debates to emphasize just how strong he can/could be on such a foreign policy:

"Be prepared, first, to put your sights on the American vessel. And then be prepared that the next thing you see will be the gates of Hell, because that
is exactly what you will see after that."

Very strong words for Tehran whom I'm sure is enjoying the PR spin they are having to do with this all(and lets be honest here, they have no business playing into Bush's hands by being anywhere near those ships, regardless of whether it was their territory or not).

It is interesting though to see Huckabee finally deviate a bit from the compassionate conservative mold that he has crafted very well for his campaign. As far as his campaigns concerned, this could be his "Hillary crying" moment, where he shows that no matter how genuine he comes off as caring about people and issues, he is ready to let loose the "Dogs of War" should he need to in a very decisive and forceful way (something us Americans love, not that we're compensating for anything...).

Will be especialy interesting to see if this jars loose some wishy washy McCain fans that are realy only backing him because he is viewed as the safest candidate with as little baggage as possible, but also because he has the best foreign policy and really any experience of any of them, outside of executive experience that is.

The next Primary should be most telling as to whether we are looking at a McCain resurgence and a possible real candidate, or if perhaps NH was really a sign of Huckabee just hitting a speed bump on his way to the southern primaries and their wealth of evangelicals!

Its coming down to the wire!

Other then Huckabee's now double-digit lead in Iowa and Cyborg Romney's 6-8% point lead in New Hampshire, it is still anyones game in the GOP Primary its looking.

On the Republican side, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee appears to have a
double-digit edge in Iowa, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney an 8-point
margin in New Hampshire – but South Carolina remains up for grabs, with five
candidates registering in double digits.

In the Hawkeye State – where a Newsweek poll released Friday appeared to show Huckabee with a stunning 22 point lead – the Republican contest seems to be a three-person race, with Huckabee at 32 percent, Romney at 20 percent, former Tennesse Sen. Fred Thompson at 11 percent and no other candidate registering higher than single digits.

Really enjoying the fact that this is still all up in the air. I kind of feel like this makes the process that much more interesting to have candidates really beat the crap out of each other before the general election. Air out the dirty laundry, let us all know just how many skeletons you have in your closet THEN let us decide how we want to go.

The same seems to hold true in the Dem side of things as well:

percent, John Edwards at 21 percent, and no other candidate registering higher

Really seems like this is going to boil down to two things (in my humble opinion of course)...

First off, is Huckabee going to continue to maintain this type of momentum moving forward solidifying the evangelical and more right leaning portions of the party while (and this is the key here) learning how to raise money like the cyborg or the cross dresser?

Secondly, is Edwards populism ever going to click in a way that Huckabee's has for his own pockets of power within the more right leaning parts of his party? Edwards can obviously count on plenty of resources if he needs to in order to carry on any momentum he may create before the primary, but something really needs to happen for his candidacy to really start showing he can out-muscle Hillary and Obama.

Any thoughts out there LSWTF, or bloggers in general?

Huckabee unstoppable?

Granted I started writing about Huckabee as the interesting former Governor that was speaking his mind about several topics that I quite honestly was shocked to hear any politician say in public, but it seems that every time I look at the news now he's gained so much traction in his campaign that he has "pulled to within a single percentage point of Hillary Clinton in a general election match-up."!!!

Today, in the first full round of national polling completed since last week’s “debate” among Republican Presidential hopefuls, Huckabee has pulled to within three points of the frontrunning Rudy Giuliani. Heading into the debate, Giuliani led Huckabee by twelve.

Really is shaping up to be a fascinating primary on the GOP side between the Cyborg Romney, Cross-dresser Rudy and now the seemingly unstoppable Huckabee. Should at the very least provide us political geeks some much needed entertainment after watching the Hillary/Obama "He's looking at me, ya but he's on my side of the seat!" childish crap.

Ideally I'd love to watch an Edwards vs Huckabee election though, given the wild-card nature of both those candidates, but I guess beggars can't be choosers :).

Bored Again

Once again I can't sleep and have become extremely bored. This is due to the fact someone though it would be a genius idea to pull the building fire alarm at five in the morning.

Was searching through YouTube and I have decided to support Mike Huckabee for president based on this video. Mike Huckabee reassured me that this country is far from danger by just mentioning two words... Chuck Norris.

Amazing developments...

Don't look now ladies and gentlemen, but we've got ourselves a whole new race in the GOP primary!

Latest numbers from a Rasmussen report show none other then Governor Huckabee taking the lead in Iowa over well kept, reserved, mormon Governor Mitt Romney!

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of the Iowa caucus finds former
Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee with 28% of the vote, former Massachusetts
Governor Mitt Romney with 25% support, and everyone else far behind. National
frontrunner Rudy Giuliani gets just 12% of the vote in Iowa at this time while
former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson is the only other candidate in double
digits at 11%.

Really is a pretty shocking turn of events as Huckabee has truly come on strong recently as his visibility seems to go up by the week. He certainly has distinguished his views and his persona from the rest of the crowd at this point, but maybe this is a sign of the GOP electorate wanting someone that won't base all their responses off the latest polls?

Should be an interesting race to watch now...

Especially for our good friend that will hook us all up if he wins the Presidency :).

Dews Monday Wrap-up

Hope everyone is finally recovering from the typtophan poisoning over the holidays, because whether you like it or not, today you are stuck back in your wonderful job that did not allow you to sleep in, regardless of how much you wanted to, or prayed to some deity to allow to happen...

Yes, even us here at LSWTF.com do have to get up and be all "respectable" come morning time for "The Man", but thankfully we have this wonderful outlet to keep our minds from turning to jello. Thank being said, lets take a look at what's in the news today.

Strange evidence is surfacing that Wi-Fi, as well as high levels of heavy-metals in the bloodstream (heavy metal toxicity and no that is not a band that I know of), are linked to child-hood autism.

Dr Carlo said, "These findings tie in with other studies showing adverse
cell-membrane responses and disruptions of normal cell physiology. The
electromagnetic radiation apparently causes the metals to be trapped in cells,
slowing clearance and accelerating the onset of symptoms."

Really fascinating to see some of the technology we take for granted having such a profound effect on our health, though can't really say as I'm totally surprised... Anytime I use my cell phone for more then 20 minutes I feel like I've grown a tumor of some sort.

The interesting part of this story to me is how we are learning how various technologies are interacting with the brain (for good or ill). Always fascinating to hear we've found something that directly effects the functions of the brain, when we don't utilize close to 10% of it to begin with.

Great article in politico.com about how the New York Times (the apparently bastion of liberal commie pinko minded folks and all), sat on a story about a joint US-Pakistani Nuclear weapons operation for 3 years... Really hammering the point home about how biased these supposed papers are with their liberal agenda and all.

Regardless of how much the UN may have gotten their numbers off on HIV spreading globally, it has hit our little town (for some of the LSWTF.com staff) of Washington DC especially hard. According to latest research numbers it has hit the African American community the hardest.

The numbers most starkly illustrate HIV's impact on the African American
community. More than 80 percent of the 3,269 HIV cases identified between 2001
and 2006 were among black men, women and adolescents. Among women who tested positive, a rising percentage of local cases, nine of 10 were African
American.

Really shocking to see the numbers on this, especially given how are we have supposedly come as a society. You'd think these numbers would have to come down from everyone and their mother knowing the risks of X, Y and Z to prevent contracting HIV, but seemingly this just isn't the case here in the Nation's Capitol.

Finally, Mike Huckabee is making a lot of sense. That line alone will go over well with other writers here, but Huckabee's latest interview on CNN was really spot on when he spoke at length of the Saudi royal family's influence on America as a whole as well as our indifference to their notably long list of human rights violations.

"The United States has been far too involved in sort of looking the other
way, not only at the atrocities of human rights and violation of women,"
Huckabee said on CNN's "Late Edition."
"Every time we put our credit card in the gas pump, we're paying so that the Saudis get rich - filthy, obscenely rich, and that money then ends up going to funding madrassas," schools "that train the terrorists," said Huckabee. "America has allowed itself to become enslaved to Saudi oil. It's absurd. It's embarrassing."

Quite honestly, that is the smartest and gutsiest thing I've heard any candidate go out on a limb and say. Major Kudos to Governor Huckabee for establishing the fact that he may be the only candidate NOT already deep in Saudi interest. At the very least, he has at least demonstrated that he's not afraid of taking a wildly different stance on foreign policy then the "business as usual" approach that hasn't worked for 20 years. That and I actually met someone that used to work for him and she seemed totally normal, so he can't be nearly as crazy as he's made out to be...

Black Friday...or why you should worry about Mike Huckabee

Good morning folks, I hope everyone enjoyed their thanksgiving. I know myself and some of the faithful LSWTF readers broke bread, drank some beers, watched some football, died hard, and managed not to burn the backyard down while operating an electrical fryer in the middle of a thunderstorm. Of course when I think of Thanksgiving I really only think of one thing...

I did audition to be an extra at Camp Chippewa as it was filmed near by where I was living at the time in 1993. Sadly I did not look like "those guys", definitely not blue blood enough. I didn't have the right Hitler Youth look to me so my goal of meeting Christina Ricci and wooing her as if I was Ric Flair was dashed. That is neither here nor there, back to the story at hand.

AlterNet has a great article posted about the five things Republican Presidential Candidate and former Baptist Minister Mike Huckabee doesn't want you to know. I honestly knew a few of these, but not to the extreme extent that they went into. It is important for folks to know, be it liberal, conservative, or scientologist as this man is picking up steam and could get that Dubya vote the right is trying for.

I'll go over the five things they brought up and give my thoughts briefly, read the article if you want more of an in depth report.

1. Clinton Conspiracy Theorist and Rapists
Mike Huckabee is one of those people who believe the Clintons are nothing more then a big southern crime family. He believed it to the extent where he pardoned a serial rapist because he on those type of folks believed the Clintons framed him in the rape of their third cousin or something. He then went on to rape more women, this is definitely one if not the biggest skeleton in his closet.

2. His Christian Right Ties
Most Republican candidates have to win over the hardcore right wing of the right wing. Mike Huckabee is a former minister known for his hellfire and brimstone preaching. In short, this man is the hardcore right wing. He's a man, much like the one we have now, that believes judgment day is close at hand. This is not the kind of man you want leading the most powerful nation in the world.

3. Minutemen Hate Huckabee
The only redeeming factor that he has going for him in my view, other then his Colbert bump, is he is not so iron fist Soviet Union about illegal immigrants. He understands that it is ridiculous to kick out parents while leaving their children here to be cared for by nobody. I can give him the respect he deserves in that regard.

4. Tax Plans For Xenu!
Mike Huckabee has signed on to the FairTax plan being promoted by Atlanta-based radio host Neil Boortz which would end the federal income tax by replacing it with a federal sales tax and a monthly check from the government to offset that. It is widely rumored that Scientology created this scheme to get back at the IRS for not granting them religious exemption tax status. Either way, it would lead to a huge failure in our economy and Huckabee is probably supporting it to lure Libertarian voters who hate the income tax.

5. Government and Faith Health Care
Huckabee held up a retarded 15 year old's abortion after being raped by her stepfather. He tried to claim some bs over the state's constitution and what not, but the courts would never buy it. Thankfully a private party took care of the cost of the abortion, but Huckabee got federal money out of it which was basically a payoff to do things correctly and under federal standards. So you could expect a great deal more of Terri Schiavo type cases making the news when God has say over your health care.

Chuck Norris' tears can make Mike Huckabee President (too bad Chuck Norris has never cried)

It's true. Chuck Norris has endorsed Mike Huckabee for president. That's it. Call it a game. Line up a date for Chief Justice Roberts and Huckabee.

Great, if somewhat conservative, op-ed on the numerous ways the religious right is being a bit hypocritcal this election season.

Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions.

God, that quote makes you miss Jerry Falwell sometimes doesn't it? Well, apparently Christians ask no questions and have no answers, well at least correct answers. Mike Huckabee, Presidential Candidate for the Republican Nut House, made a big claim at the last GOP Debate that has some folks just laughing at him.

“When our founding fathers put their signatures on the Declaration of Independence, those 56 brave people, most of whom, by the way, were clergymen, they said that we have certain inalienable rights given to us by our creator.”

That's a nice try there sparky, but much like Travis Hafner, you weren't even close. Politifact.com did their homework, studied the history and apparently not even half were clergymen.

Only one of the 56 was an active clergyman, and that was John Witherspoon. Witherspoon was a Presbyterian minister and president of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University).

A few more of the signers were former clergymen, though it’s a little unclear just how many…. We’d like to give Huckabee every benefit of the doubt, but even if you consider former clergymen among the signers the best you could come up with is four. Out of 56. That’s not “most,” that’s Pants-on-Fire wrong.

See, this is the problem I have with the RWNH, they all seem to think the American Revolution was run by people who looked like George Washington, acted like the Pilgrims, prayed every hour on the hour, and had nothing but pure Christian Dogma in their head. That may be true for a few, but when one looks at the authors of the majority of our early documents, you don't get that. Once again, for those that missed previous classes.

Something that is inspired by a religious doctrine, something that is influence, is not the same as something that is based on said doctrine. A good many of those founding fathers were in fact Deists, they believed in a god or something of that magnitude, but not of the God you think is deep in your heart.
